Five Things meme swiped from [personal profile] ysilme:

5 things you’ll find in my bag: keys, work badge, wallet, iPad, glucose tablets

5 things you’ll find in my bedroom: kitty treats, glucose tablets on bedside table, zabuton/zafu cushions, stairs to the bed so kitties can jump up more easily (Harry is starting to need that), personal altar

5 things I’ve always wanted to do: go to China(done), go to Russia (nope), see an eclipse (done), do a huge USA and Canada road trip to see fannish friends (not yet!), watch a Lord of the Rings movie (done)

5 things that make me happy: kitties, talking to [personal profile] hanarobi, dancing, the smell of the ocean, meditating

5 things I’m currently into: Bahubali which is leading to other Indian movies and TV shows, going through my house and labeling stuff to start preparing for my move, Project Runway season 16, Indian soundtrack music, capri leggings

5 things on my to-do list: binge watch Game of Thrones for this season (it's getting harder to remain unspoiled lol), get a new Social Security card with my actual name on it rather than my married name from the 1970s, get the car a brake job, take books to the book drop-off location so I can continue culling, trim the shrubbery by the sidewalk or the homeowners association will be vexed with me (I actually like them to be vexed with me on account of they're assholes).

Thinking of a story where all the gods/demons/etc. exist but no one is interested any more. I remember Star Trek had the Apollo episode that I used to watch obsessively. Any book or film recs for that kind of story? How do gods deal with rejection? Maybe some like it, gets them away from all that smiting and stuff. I bet the AO3 has some from the Yuletide collections. Probably a bunch of coffee shop AUs lol.

Good morning.

Good morning from beautiful blue skies Seattle!

Peeps my generation, remember Here Come the Brides? Remember the show's theme song lyrics?

"The bluest sky you’ve ever seen, in Seattle.
And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle."

See you on the flip side when the light returns! Looks like we go dark first!

ETA 9:14 am: Eeeeeee! It's started! A sliver of the sun is dark!
ETA2 10:34 am: Damn, that was fun.

Pet Warning for Monday

Pet Warning! Keep those critters inside and the curtains drawn tomorrow while TEH UNIVERSE comments on what we have done.

New massage therapist Saul is wonderful, first time anyone has ever touched my feet without causing lots of pain. Have signed up for every two weeks. His accent is very intriguing. He is from Africa, my guess is northern Africa--perhaps Morocco or Libya, Algeria, maybe Egypt. Will ask after I've gone a time or two.

Didn't get tatt yet. I'm needing a little support so am going to ask my work peeps to come with me some place over lunch. Plus I need to print out design.

So proud of my Boston peeps! You showed us how it's done yesterday, thank you.

Social media and the news (plus a number of other stressors) are making me tachycardia city all day, every day. I am going to try and just... stay off all screens this weekend, if possible. Maybe email me, maybe text me, but like... the world is just not working right now.

Happy Froday!

Lordy this has been a long week at work. Not bad per se, just super busy and crazy. Some random stuff:
  1. Driving to work (south to Tacoma, heading in the direction of Oregon) this week, the past couple of days the overhead signs on the freeway are saying, "SOLAR ECLIPSE 8/21/2017 -- EXPECT DELAYS TO OREGON". I mean, how fun is that? Never happened in my lifetime and I'm as old as dirt!
  2. Been passing around the eclipse sunglasses I purchased (and verified that they were on the "safe" list).
  3. And now I understand why they're warning about driving. Coz a bunch of fools are going to be on the road and looking at the damn thing while it's happening, perhaps stopping. And possibly putting on the sunglasses while driving which means they won't see a damn thing coz those lenses are super dark! I dunno, I just know I've leaving early for work Monday.
  4. And I better make sure I fill up with gas today! Word is gas stations are running dry in eastern Washington and also parts of Oregon.
  5. New massage therapist this weekend at a new place. Alison, my beloved therapist, is not returning to where I used to go. Oh well. I've even swallowed my inhibitions and am going to let a man do the work. His name is Saul and he's from Africa. That's a very good Jewish name if you ask me.
  6. Which is good because I am going to see about getting a small Star of David tattoo this weekend. Gotta make sure the Nazis can find me.
  7. New Project Runway last night! There are these twins on there who are already driving everyone bugnuts. Am thinking they were theater kids, they've got that phony baloney enunciation thing going on.

Any good plans this weekend? I think it's rest and relaxation for moi. Think I'll see if I can get further down the road with Ramayan -- I think I'm on episode 22 or 23 now.

Good article from Tara Brach on relaxing the over-controller and letting life happen. I see a lot of this in myself, not so much as in the past but not gone.

Happy Wednesday, flist.

Still hating Nazis here.

Dear femslashex author

It's the time of year for [community profile] femslashex! I've asked for either fic or art on all of my prompts and would be thrilled with either. All but one of my requests are canons with a visual component, but (as a long-time comics fan!) I'm very happy with different interpretations of the characters so don't feel tied down to their literal canon appearances if there's something different you want to do. The same goes for fic - while obviously I enjoy the tone of each canon, if you want to write something at odds with it, or from a different POV or using original characters to explore the canon pairings, that's all good too.

General likes: plot, women working together against common enemies, non-mundane AUs (coffee shop in space yes, coffee shop in modern day Earth no)

General dislikes: rape/non-con, non-canon character deaths, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction, mindless zombies, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs, character or pairing bashing

I've tried to put several prompts for each of the fandoms and a general idea of what I like about them, but if you want to do something else completely, please do! These are just suggestions.

Thank you to my amazing betas: [personal profile] lilacsigil and [personal profile] musyc. You guys were awesome and got me from "I want to write POI Sentinel/Guide fic with soft face touching" to actually getting it posted.

Title is from the Elton John song. ("Subway's no way for a good man to go down.")

Summary: In 2001, Harold advised on a project called Cascade, not knowing he was a Guide himself. Years later, he and John, a Sentinel on the run from Cascade, must help Shaw, who has just lost her own Guide when the Project turned on her. Complicating matters is Root, searching for Harold's Machine and interfering with their rescue of Shaw.

Hey there -- anyone out there have any experience using SlingTV? I have it now but might not keep it since I seem to have mostly gotten rid of my urges to watch live TV. But still -- I figured it might be nice for $20/month though now that I have it, I don't watch it hardly at all plus performance issues so far.
