I'd say that about 80% or more of the fanfiction I write is genfic with homoerotic subtext. [...] As a result, my stories tend to get labeled pretty arbitrarily, and I often change my labeling depending on how connected I'm feeling to my slash community at the time. [...] I guess my opinion is that sometimes labels are unhelpful, and actually can end up placing unnatural restraints on fanfiction writers who feel they have to write within the boundaries they create.

As someone who writes the same way and has experienced similar feelings of arbitrariness at having to slot my fic into one category or another, I wondered in a recent post whether there might be a less restrictive label to apply to subtexty stories on the gen/slash borderline, and was quite charmed by [livejournal.com profile] lydiabell's suggestion of BYOG (Bring Your Own Goggles) (http://nindulgence.livejournal.com/40037.html?thread=212581#t212581).
