Pirates 3
Well, that was a disappointment. I was bored, people. BORED. In a Pirates movie! That ain't right.
I am trying to think of the things I liked about it, but to be honest, 15 minutes after the film I'd stopped thinking about it. An hour later and I'd forgot I'd even seen it.
- Way too much talking/negotiating/POLITICS, too little action. That's what made the second film so much fun. All the awesome, innovative ACTION scenes.
- I hardly laughed. At all. Whut?
- So very, very convoluted. The first film was so damn simple, just a handful of characters and their motivations. This? Was, again, WAY too much politics.
- Too many damn characters! Without any characterisation! As there was no real time for the audience to engage with any of them.
- as with the point above - I was not moved by ANYTHING that occured in it - Not the wedding, not Norry's death, not Will's death, not the promise of spaced-out conjugal visits. I felt completely disconnected from the characters and their emotions and motivations.
- Did I mention too much talk? and not enough action? I felt like 80% of the film was spent talking/politicking, and then 15% was dramatic, slow motion scenes that meant nothing to me (bad guy.. what was his NAME, even? walking down the stairs as the cannon balls shot through) because I didn't even know who the character was, what/if they had an arc, etc. The last 5% was CGI.
I couldn't get into it at all, which is disappointing. It's not that i disliked it per se, it just completely failed to engage or interest me. Sigh!
