I'm honestly not familiar enough with Firefly (yet) to comment on the characters, but I could see and smell and hear this scene clearly - this is beautiful writing.
Hmmm. This is very lovely, you've given it a great dream-within-a-dream quality that makes us all want more! *g*
I really appreciate the details; Simon's shirt and Ioreth's chatter that you can read between the lines. The descriptions of Eowyn and Eomer had me sniffling, just a little. That's the scene I love most in the book and you've captured it beautifully from another angle.
I have to admit I'm quite curious as to how Our Heroes ended up in Middle Earth, but the ficlet feels oddly complete within itself and I wonder if adding more would undo the knot you've made.
At any rate, I loved this. Might I have your permission to link this on my soon-to-be rec's page?
thankyou for the great feedback! i tend to think about crossovers like magic realism... their charm lies in the fact that there is nothing really out of the ordinary about them being there, rather than *how* or *why* they're there. I prefer to try and get people to suspend disbelief by believably slotting them in there rather than working up a credible *way* they got there, if that makes sense.
I'm glad you like it :) I'm extremely flattered by your intent to rec; please, go right ahead :D
yeah, i totally didn't go into the story thinking about athelas and river, but when i got into it, it made me wonder what aragorn/kingsfoil could do with her.
I thought this was going to be funny when you said you wrote Firefly/LOTR, but instead it fits wonderfully, especially River's connection with Aragorn and her ability to perceive more about him than most eyes can see.
it was weird, how much the eowyn/eomer (though, er, not 'shippy) dynamic struck me when I watched ROTK after being so into the Tam lub. I HEART THEM ALL.
I have long been a fan of LotR, & I was a Firefly fan from the very beginning. This story was beautifully perfect. Do you archive your work? So far, one of my fav sites is www.dreamelf.com.

I want to know more about what Mal's doing, because don't you know It's All About Mal? Erm. Or perhaps that's just me.
I like Ioreth looking after River. (Tolkien doesn't give Ioreth enough love.)
I like the effect that kingsfoil has on River, and how River reacts to Eomer and Eowyn, and Eomer stroking Eowyn's hand with his thumb. (snif)
