So, the housemate and I slowed down frame-by-frame to watch those single-frame subliminal flashes... And they were just single frames from a previous shot? Nothing particularly mysterious - just a technique to make you think they were?

Also, I LOVED the set dressing of this episode. Nice retro furnishing and lighting, council flat.
