Happy happy birthday! And here is the wee present I have been holding on to, waiting for this day to tell you. In the very first episode (or maybe the second--I should go check but don't really need to because I am sure you will know which scene I am talking about), River has freaked out in the infirmary and is hiding her face in her arms, crouching on the floor, and Simon kneels down beside her, gently asking her if she knows who he is, and then River comes back to herself and peers at Simon through her fingers and says, in a 'god, my brother is such a dweeb and just how stupid does he think I am' sort of way, "Simon." The way she says his name, the way she is looking at him through her hair hanging in her face and her splayed fingers...the very first time I saw that scene, I just gaped at the screen and said, "Oh my god, that's Hope!"

So as far as I'm concerned, you exist, in fact, in the Firefly universe.
