er .okay, random thought on the subject from random person who's been stalking your LJ via stalking [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] (which makes me a bad person admitting to reading your stuff and not commenting, but I'm weirdly shy like that, but I do! love your fics and your LJ is very entertaining).

To me it does sound like a feminine "Maddy" in the episode. And I was disappointed when I read the script and that it was a "Matty". I like the idea of a younger sister better because firstly, I love to imagine Jayne as a protective older brother. When boys come around he glares at them menacingly and idly plays with guns. Secondly, I like the younger sister idea because it then creates parallels for Simon and Jayne. When Jayne says in the movie "I think it's noble as a grape the way you look after River, but she ain't my sister." really clinched the notion for me.
As a Jayne/Simon slasher it helps provide a sort-of bond for the characters that can be incorporated in fleshing out the relationship.
