fandomwiki.com
Hey peeps. To anyone who was looking at/using fandomwiki.com, I discovered www.fanhistory.com, which kind of negates the need for fandomwiki.com to exist!
I've just gone and password protected the domain to use it for my own nefarious backup purposes so's the space doesn't go to waste. Just thought I'd let those of you who had signed up for an account on the fandomwiki know.
ETA: to make it clear to the folks who haven't been loitering around here for years *g*:
This is NOT the Super-wiki. That'll remain as-is.
fandomwiki.com is another site of mine entirely, not at all related to SPN.

John/DeanSupernatural information will be going up over there? I hope so as that J/D page provided me with some excellent stories! I love that wiki.no subject

Look at her femslash entry: http://www.fanhistory.com/index.php?title=Saffic (she's trying to rename the genre) or her issues with CC and Heidi: http://www.fanhistory.com/index.php?title=Heidi_Tandy ...
just a thought (it's not like you don't have a bazillion other things to do, after all :-)

But, I didn't realise the extent to which she had such authorial control/bias over the content, there.
I was in the process of developing policies to keep my 'fandomwiki' as open and extensive as possible, working out how to convey the concept of multiplicity/subjectiveness of experience I wanted to foster/demonstrate with it... Then, yeah, the bazillion other things took over and I had to set it aside for the time being. But, I am taking a year off study next year in order to work on more fandom stuff.
So, hmm.

but i do think a wiki would be a marvelous thing and an open one that's not hamperered by perceived bias (b/c ultimately Laura does good work; it's just that she doesn't clearly separate agenda from info and gets into too many confrontations for people to take her on neutral grounds...)
have you read Francesca Coppa's media fandom history in Fan Fiction and Fan communities and bladibla? :-) i know she gathers quite a bit of info and i'm pretty certain she'd love to share in an open setting...
taking a year off? how fun!!! i can barely get an afternoon off these days...or so it feels :-)

Haven't read the Coppa piece. I ordered that damn book months and MONTHS ago, and it still hasn't arrived. I have also forcibly stopped myself from reading anything new until the thesis is done, because it just complicates everything.
Yup, thought I'd take a break before I did into the postgrad for real! I have been at school non-stop for like, what... almost 18 years, now. Time for some guilt-free spare time.

i can't believe you haven't gotten it yet. that sucks!!! i know too little about your thesis to be able to say if it'd complicate...it does have a lot of thought-provoking and usable stuff though (if i may dare say so myself :-)
methodology...great idea!!! i really hope you think some more...b/c we badly need a good history (we keep on copying info from one another, but that's just not enough...i just wrote an encyclpoedia entry on slash and really tried to figure out what the first piece was...consensus remains on marchant, but i at least wanted to *see* the darn piece and all...) luckily there are still folks around who were there then....
