fandom wikis

As you may or may not know, I run oscillating.net, a multi-fandom hosting domain. I've recently moved it over to DreamHost, which means I have metric buttloads of space and bandwidth.

I also have one-click installs for a number of nifty things, including MediaWiki, the software used to build wikipedia. Thus far I've used it to create the Super-wiki, which is fab, but I still have all this space left on the domain!

So, er, this is a call - if you're interested in constructing a wiki for your fandom... hit me up. I can set you up with an oscillating.net subdomain, install the wiki for you, help you with configuration etc.

I would love this help because I want to learn about wikis for my online classes--and the best way is to jump in, I figure! (I've signed up for the wikichix and the femsf wiki, but this sort of offer means it would be my wiki right?).

I would LOVE for you to jump right on into my fandom wiki (which, the idea is, is aca-fan run). It's normally at fandomwiki.com, but I've got it locked at the moment. I must open it up!

*oops* I hadn't realized it was for Supernatural.

I've never watched--sorry! Am somewhat of an obsessive single fandom sort of person (I dabble a bit in Firefly/Serenity and PotC but not actively).

For me, it's just LOTR!

I have an active supernatural wiki at the moment at http://supernatural.oscillating.net.

I have a fandom-the-phenomena wiki that isn't currently active (but I want it to be, just have to get people involved) at www.fandomwiki.com (Which i need to unlock).

methinks the fandomwiki.com would be an awesome project for you to get involved in! lotrips wiki, too. i think poking around the fandom, seeing who else would be interested in getting involved, would be a good idea too.

with wikis, you kind of need a really concentrated effort to get it off the ground - if it's empty when you launch, no one will come to it, and if no one comes, no one contributes! in my experience, anyway!

Well, I'm up for both! That is, I'm interested in wikis (though I cannot promise I'd be too active right at the moment until after the encyclopedia is done--that's the old boring print wiki format, you know the kind we invented in the Stone Age *giggles*), but yeah!

I think I heard people talking about the super wiki--so yeah, let me know, and I'll sign up, and um, yeah, if I was to do a fandom one, I think LOTrIPS would be it.

I have to be able to run the wikis or whatever it's called, and as with everything in fandom, seems I learn best by just jumping in.
