It's been a while since I've meta'ed!

I'm loving the way season 2's turning over and re-hashing the issues and tropes of the first season, hell yeah. They first flipped it over in Salvation, of course, with Sam shoving Dean against the wall, and continued it through early S2 (Dean grieving for John as Sam grieved for Jess; Sam becoming the responsible caregiver and voice of compassion where Dean was early in S1, etc etc).

But I also love the things that don't change, are just riffed on over and over like a refrain. Still allegorical in their simplicity, but subtle enough and with a whole range of extended complexity in their contextualising that it *doesn't* come across as unimaginative repetition.

The instance I'm stuck on right now (and come back to frequently with a happy sigh) is the parallell between Scarecrow and Hunted:

1. Sam gets stubborn about something he wants to do that Dean won't budge on.
2. Sam leaves Dean
(2b. Sam hotwires/steals a car in the process *g*)
3. Sam has to come back to Dean and 'rescue' him.
3b. And not just any kind of rescue. Both in Scarecrow and Hunted Sam actually has to come back and untie Dean because he's being physically restrained.

(Also interesting if you want to further lay the episodes over each other - Scarecrow has Meg + MotW; Hunted has Ava + Gordon. Which is which in Hunted?)

Also also interesting. If you look for more parallells like this - obviously, the speeches in Wendigo + ELaC; Bloody Mary + CSPWDT. Asylum + Croatoan could be a match on that mapping too, I reckon. Crossroad Blues + Home. Playthings + Faith (you've got to let me die, etc).

Anyhoo.

This is pretty piss-poor meta, as my brain is a bit creaky at the moment, but just wanted to note it down while I was still thinking about it.

PS. plis don't spoil me in comments, yall, even if it's a vague 'just wait and see!'. I don't want to know.
