SFX blog awards

The Supernatural Wiki has been nominated for a SFX Magazine "Blog Award"!

Also in the category are sites like Leaky Cauldron, and The One Ring.net, which I'm pretty stoked about being alongside - TORN was the site I discovered fandom through, so that's a particularly gleeful bit of pride!

They describe us as:
The most comprehensive Supernatural site on the web, established in 2006, Supernatural Wiki is a well laid-out, intelligently designed, easy to navigate Aladdin’s cave of Winchester goodness.

The awards are judged by community voting, so please - go vote for the Super-wiki!!

And spread the word to your own networks, if you're thus inclined :)

:D

I have been working with [livejournal.com profile] curriejean on setting up [livejournal.com profile] tw_kinkandseek, a community for collecting and collating Torchwood fic by KINK.

The way it works is that you claim a kink you like, then go out and hunt down all the stories with it you can find, perhaps pulling out a few to rec as your favourites.

Then you post to the community in the timeslot you also claimed (so hopefully, it'll keep trundling on for a while instead of fizzling), the post gets tagged and each story you link to gets bookmarked in the kinkandseek delicious account, too.

Find out more about what it's all about, or just go ahead and claim a kink now :D

I want this to work! It'll be super-cool! Come and play!

In other news, Transformative Works and Cultures [journal] have just released their Supernatural issue! Even not being in the fandom any more, I've had a poke around and enjoyed a bunch of the articles now. It's super-solid. And you also get to read this awesome interview with me & my fellow Supernatural Wiki admins.

It was funny doing that, because Deb totally came to it like, "so, tell me about how you handle the CONFLICT of managing a wiki!" and we were like, "conflict? what conflict? this is UTOPIA!" ♥Super-wiki

Fans are made of awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] missyjack put the call out and compiled a gallery of Supernatural fan tattoos on the Super-wiki!

(Mine is there! And Jules', which I designed! :D)

Looking at them made me very happy :)

Pipe up if you've got one and you want to share!

Honestly? I can't muster myself to be offended by your experience of [livejournal.com profile] winchestercon.

Those women's "ghost stories" quite probably have more readers than attended your show last night. Words crafted by those women have moved their thousands and thousands of readers to joy, love, grief, arousal, and helpless hilarity. Not to mention intellectual stimulation. And they're words that their readers will come back to again and again, probably still reading for years to come.

Can you say that of your own work? Seriously?

The fact that these women aren't doing it for money makes it all that more admirable. They're brilliant just because they can be, because they want to be. Not just that, but they have day jobs as well, upon which they wreak their intellect, competence and creativity on similarly worthy and world-changing pursuits. They're probably responsible for a whole lot of shit that not only makes your life easier, but supports and changes the society around you for the better.

All that, and writing their ghost stories, forming relationships, creating art, opening minds and forming a mind-bogglingly awesome community in their spare time. They live the double life of cultural superheroes.

Thousands of people around the world adore those women. And get a massive kick just out of the idea that even just a tiny percentage of them are congregated in a hotel in Denver, having an absolute ball.

So, I'm afraid you're going to have to try harder to harsh my squee. If anything, you've served to remind me to think about just how awesome fandom is, the art it creates, the love shared by the people in it. The sheer joy.

Also, are you kidding me? Fatties are totally hot. And you're totally right, blogging is yuck. I'll just be over at your totally classy MySpace page and absolutely riveting Twitter feed.

Reiterating again: I am moving overseas, thus getting rid of my stuff and raising money to do so.

One of the top free iPhone applications is one called "PhoneSaber". Allow me to transcribe the description:
Ever wished you could swing your iPhone around like a lightsaber? Well, now you can, with PhoneSaber.

As you swing your phone, a range of lightsaber sound effects will be emitted from your phone's speaker. Not only that, but you can also withdraw and put away your saber.

Last but not least, you can also change the color of your lightsaber for maximum effect.

This is the third most downloaded application on the new iTunes Apps store. Why am I not surprised?

By the way, my phone appears to be in the middle of transitioning from one carrier to another - my old SIM is no longer active but the new one's not roaming yet. So if you need to reach me in the meantime, pliz call me at home or email me :)

Ooo, I wonder how far my wireless reaches into town? :D

[livejournal.com profile] proofpudding made an absolutely adorable, glee-inducing samndean vid to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours".

I have been meaning to make a Mraz pimping post for a while, esp as his new album has just come out and I'll be seeing him again in August (zomg!).

As I was saying to [livejournal.com profile] tvm in the comments of her rec post for the above vid, as much as I love Mraz and that song, the version (from the new album) the vidder uses is probably my least favourite. Because the thing with Jason Mraz is that he tours a billion times more than he actually releases albums. And he encourages bootleggers and "illegal" distribution of his music. So basically, having listened to multiple live, acoustic and garage versions of those songs for years, the album sounds a bit too over-produced for me.

But that's ok. The album is 12 songs, and I have on average about 4 more awesome versions of each of those songs; plus it came with a bonus disc with even more live versions. So there is plenty of Mraz fabulousness to be gorged upon :D

So anyway, to share the Mraz love (as encouraged by the man himself), I will share my favourite version of the song: I'm Yours live at Montalvo Winery, Saratoga, California (2006).

I can seriously not listen to that song without getting a huge grin and overflowing with glee. ♥MRAZ♥

And now I go to bed. See, I went to go to bed before, but then I had to listen to that track on my ipod, so then I had to get up, upload it and make an LJ post.

Leaving unlocked because Mraz is all about the free love music. And is also a giant dork (anyone needing convincing of this can friend [livejournal.com profile] fresh_mraz).

I STILL HAVE NO MRAZ ICON.

I have no Bobby icon! Not right!

So anyway, in non-spoilery news, [livejournal.com profile] missyjack and I decided last night that what we REALLY need is a spin off of SPN all about Bobby. In the same way that BtVS had the AtS spinoff which was not about whiny teenagers but rather a COOL CRIME-FIGHTING TEAM!!.

This spinoff is an ensemble sitcom about Bobby Singer, all-round long-suffering hunter dude and the various hunters who come through his house to have a beer with him. This includes Ellen, Jo, Tamara, Gordon, Kubrick, Rufus, and occasionally the Ghostfacers (and Henricksen, dammit!). Basically, all the cool badass characters who have been introduced once and then either killed off or NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN.

There's canned laughter. The audience "WHOOOOOOA!"s whenever Gordon enters stage left, and boos whenever he talks about killing stuff. There's constant, amusing sexual tension between Gordon and Kubrick. Gordon finds random excuses to take his shirt off, but is totally oblivious to everything except KILLING STUFF. So the audience always "oooOOOooo"s whenever Kubrick gets awkward when Gordon is shirtless and manages to trick Gordon into walking off-frame with him.

Jo and Bobby are the dynamic duo, the "surrounded by idiots" pair. IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY MISMATCHED CHARACTER TYPES! They frequently manage to save the day when they team up together, often exchange rolled-eyes and glances behind the backs of other characters, and the audience "awwwww"s whenever Jo cutesily wheedles something out of Bobby and Bobby crumbles and gives in to her. And when they have hugs. Because they do. Jo makes jokes about Bobby's beard and hats and Bobby gets all flustered.

Ellen and Tamara are both amusing in their butch-ish ways, but both very good in a tight spot. Henricksen swans around in his suit, being mildly distasteful at the clutter of demonology in Bobby's house, but is also very good at pulling strings and being a deus ex machina.

Rufus is freaking hilarious, and is constantly trying to convince the younger hunters to set up shop in his chapel and go under cover in high schools to fight teenage demons. The Ghostfacers totally love him and follow him around like ducklings. They randomly pop up in scenes wearing tight acid-wash jeans and bandannas. Ed totally has a kind-of pining thing for Jo (who is kind of amused by this, but completely disinterested); ghostly Corbett gets snotty about it and attempts to smack Ed about the head when he attempts "flirting" (his hand goes right through. Funny!) The canned audience thinks gay ghosts are HILARIOUS. Especially when they try and dress in 80s clothes.

And the set and lighting is totally like that episode of Scrubs where the fantasy sequence has them in a sitcom: the mess and lighting is clearly manufactured and in-a-goddamn-studio, all peachy colours and a camera that moves very, very little.

Oh, and Bobby's catch phrase, which he says at least once an episode, is "Ya idjit!" After the end of each episode, while the credits are rolling on one half of the screen, the other half is taken up with impromptu vox pops of the studio audience. Invariably they include people looking incredibly gleeful and wearing teeshirts that say "YA IDJIT" on them.

*firm nod*

Yes, I would like to see this. Gimme.

How about, say, old yellow-eyes isn't a demon but a terminator? We all know there are red-eyed ones and blue-eyed ones; well, this is a different model, a yellow-eyed one.

Possibly the time travel thing was fucked up, it came back to kill Sam and/or Mary, but was interrupted. Because Sam is the boy king at the end of the world, rite? Just like John Connor.

Anywayz, the Colt is a spesh electrocution gun. In about 15 years Dean is going to go back in time and build it, piece by piece.

daddy issues ahoy

After watching the animated Hercules tonight, and being reminded of many, many days spent mainlining Xena DVDs, I have decided that I want to read a Supernatural AU. Where Sam and Dean wander around Ancient Greece in their little leather miniskirts, constantly retrieving each other from the underworld.

Oh, come on. Just think of the legs. Think of SAM'S legs, dear god. THIGHS.

Dean might have to wear a toga.* Oh, the curse of bow legs in Ancient Greece.

* Yes Karen, I know they didn't have togas. But look! over here! I am distracting you with the idea of Dean in a toga! A crown of grapes! A grumpy, grumpy expression!
