I just went to sign up at greatestjournal only to discover that GASP, MY USERNAME WAS TAKEN! ..only to discover that it was taken by ME, a while ago. oops.
I was thinking last night about how it wouldn't be so bad, leaving lj, I could still keep up with people using RSS and whatnot... but then I realise. Friends locked stuff. It's pretty much what I use livejournal for these days, for reading about my friends more than their fandom stuff, and for posting stuff for my friends, not for the public.
It makes me really sad and pissed off to think that that could be taken away from me, but I don't see a lot of choice. I'm also incredibly sad about the idea of abandoning my comments, my feedback, my conversations with friends (and foes) that have taken place over the past 5 years.
So, I'm http://angstslashhope.greatestjournal.com. I'll try and use ljArchive to upload this journal over there, will use Semagic to cross-post all entries over here and over there (until the time comes for whatever), and will think about how to get
hopeful_fiction somewhere else as well.
In addition, if YOU are looking for somewhere to archive your fannish works (or blog), I have tonnes of bandwidth and space over at http://oscillating.net, and can install for you the very handy blogging software Wordpress (which is also good for fic archiving!), at the click of a button.
I can also provide (at the click of a button) password protected directories on your webspace there.
It is not my own server though, but Dreamhost's. I'm pretty sure they're quite lenient when it comes to fannish works - podcasts, songvids, fanart, fanfiction. However, they don't gel with the piracy stuff, so if you wanted to take me up on the webspace offer then it's with the agreement that you won't be uploading any films, tv shows or mp3s (that you don't own the copyright to). I've got far too much important stuff on that account to have it all done away with in one fell swoop because someone wanted to share the latest episode of SPN with their friend.
So with that clear, drop me a line if you want a yourname.oscillating.net subdomain for your blog or fannish works.
('oscillating', btw, is a reference to it being multifandom hosting - as in 'oscillating fan'.)

Any thoughts about all the old stuff from dombillijah.net? I'd love to see those archives up again. I still have bookmarks.

If you have the inclination to try and get some of it back up, though, i'd be happy to give you whatever you need!

I know it's been a long time since you offered, but if the offer's still on, I'd love to make a wiki for The Professionals. The fandom has 30 years of history, and I know (hope? I'm trying to be assertive :) that once it's started, people will contribute.
I can't offer money contributions right now, since I'm kind of broke, but in the next months some things should change (I've put my flat in Rome on sale, I'll be looking for some part time job comes September...), so, I will as soon as I can. It's only fair.
I've applied for a year of intercalation on my PhD. I hope it'll be granted (on medical terms), but at least, it's out of my hands, now. I'll use six of these months to take care of my health issues, get some therapy, do some exercise, and in the other six I'll build slowly to studying/writing/completing the DamnThesis! (tm)...building up the Pros wiki during this time will keep the subject in focus, and be something good for teh fandom, I hope.
I suppose that all this LJ failing us business makes me even more aware of the frailty and temporality of our endeavours, so recording Pros history seems important.
Let me know what you think! *hugs you, goes to back up LJ and explore fandom_flies and such*

why are you (and other people) leaving LJ? has it suddenly become anti-fic, or only-paid-accounts or something? or is it something more sinister?
i am scratching my head here.

here's some links to a good start of what's going on, and here are some more links with more extrapolation, if you want.
