I need geek aid, stat!
two things:
1) Are there any like, uber-skilled CSS-ers reading this who might be able to help me with some layout problems I'm having with a stylesheet? I've done pretty good so far, but there's just one thing that's completely stumping me. Also, I need help with IE compatibility with stylesheets - I have no idea where to start with hacks and whatnot.
2) Having to ask this question has given me a thought - Should I create a community along the lines of
fandom_lawyers, called something like fandom_itgeeks or something? It would function in a similar way to fandom_lawyers. i.e. A place where you can ask questions of the IT experts (who are also fans!) watching the community about specific problems with IT you're having. Probably more web-IT than personal computer stuff.
Because, you know, I dig out and hang around a bunch of IT support boards when I have problems, but a lot of the times I really *don't* want to link to my website of gay porn and geekdom, yaknow?
So it would be a place for things like: I'm having trouble with positioning in my css stylesheet, or: does anyone know why this mediawiki extension isn't working for me? or: halp! I broke the php in my lj layout! So, a tech support resource for fandom webmasters.
So not necessarily the low-level stuff like "can someone make me an icon because I only have MS paint, lol!"
What do you reckon?

I love that idea, and I think I would definitely participate. :))
And I might be able to help you with CSS, maybe? Although I will admit I know very little about IE compatibility.

I don't know too much about CSS, but I have a basic understanding of it (and an awesome book!) and I'm quite good at reading and finding problems in code (I studied "geek" for two years ;-))

the real pain in the arse is IE7. there was a "star hack" that used to work in IE, but not in this version, apparently.
i don't code half as much as i should, so i'll readily admit that i tend to snag existing tried'n'tested template layouts and then tweak them.
b.x :)

And fandom_it would be quite lovely, I think. There's

I think I will create a fandom_it comm... just need to figure out the guidelines etc for it first, though (would you be interested in co-modding it?)

And I got your email and I'll look it over when I'm more awake. I can see the problem, I just need to figure out how to solve it.

If you have any ideas of how to tweak and play around with the existing mediawiki search, though, I'd welcome them.
