As someone who is part of the process of ogranising the larger cons, as well as small slashcons, I've been part of the interminable 'how do we attract the youngsters?' discussions. Then we have a con, and it's awash with teenagers dressed up as anime characters, and everyone stops fretting.
There are lots of folks out there who aren't interested in attending face-to-face gatherings, whose social needs are being met online. Those of us who got into fandom before the 'net are still keen on hanging out in the same actual space and talking, but we're just old.
