wtf, lj?
I have been getting a lot of spam comments on my (public) sticky post lately. Like, a couple per day.
They are just generic things like "Wow!" and "That sucks!" and stupid shit like that, then you click onto the poster's journal and it's just a series of spam entries - links to random spam bullshit, like any spam email.
When deleting the comments, LJ lets you mark them as spam. Which I did when I got rid of a bunch yesterday.
Yesterday I also went to the spam journal and clicked "flag content" - a link at the top on that ridiculous info bar. It took me to a page where I could select what kind of content I was flagging - adult, child porn, spam, etc. So I tick "spam" and report all those spammy journals.
Today the link in the info bar is gone. There's a link to "flag journal" on the user info page, which takes me to this information page. The link to the info on spam there just takes you to a page about what to do if there is a spam comment, or a spam post in a community - there is no way to report a spammy journal any more.
I guess it's because of this policy? It's not actually illegal to post spam in fake journals (unless... it's a certain kind of spam? not that LJ is letting me report it if it *isn't* the allowed kind). It's not actually illegal to post random comments that get people to go to your spam journal. But it's illegal to post spam directly to comments.
Or, can I just not report these journals because I reported a batch yesterday already?
Oh, joy.

I'm sure it's to attract people to their spam stuffed journals and whatever spyware infected links they post. ¬¬
I can't report them for spam either.

So I went to the entry in question, wondering if I'd been linked around the place or something. It was only when I looked at all the journals that were posting and saw that they were actually exactly the same that I twigged.

It's annoying not to be able to mark the journal spam anymore.

re the spam comments popping up now, i wonder if it has to do with increasing their ration of comments posted/received to become eligible for votes in the lj board stuff?

I got a couple myself, both saying "That's good to know".
