Your requisite dose of Torchwood fanwank.

Re: fucked-up relationships, Ianto Jones = Dr. Allison Cameron.

No wait, bear with me for a second... I reckon both of their serious relationships are based on their partner's imminent mortality. Or in the case of Torchwood, um, death?

Ianto's girlfriend, who he's unhealthily devoted to, is practically dead already. His total fucknut of a boss (love Jack, but honestly, have you SEEN Cyberwoman?) has a habit of being dead. Ianto and Owen only get along well together after Owen has become a zombie.

In other words, where Cameron is attracted to dying people, Ianto's attracted to dead people!

(In my own personal canon Ianto finds out about Jack's nifty little resurrection trick sometime after Cyberwoman but certainly before End of Days, obv before They Keep Killing Suzie. I reckon that's what flips the switch from fucked-up-"i will execute you" to hot gay couple. Ianto finds out Jack gets to perpetually die = suddenly Jack is attractive and all is forgiven (or at least put aside in favour of macking)! Also explains why Ianto doesn't go into hysterics when Owen kills Jack in End of Days.)

Anyway, um. mumblemumble. Gleefully fucked-up fictional relationships, hurrah. I still think this is an excellent summation of... Torchwood. (via [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Cameron's instant sexual attraction to the disabled or dying (especially cancer, yay!) somewhat creepy. And your Ianto explanation makes so much sense. Now I'm starting to think that Lisa was just the hot agent with the desk opposite his, and he always had a secret crush on her but their entire contact was a polite nod or two, then suddenly she was Cyberwomaned and it was capital-L Love!
