I hope that there could be more done in this 'verse!

It really added so much depth, not only because "one of us" made me think of Freaks, but that Ianto was willing to still include Jack as one of them made me feel like there was an entirely different layer added to their relationship.
Yea, the more I write Ianto the more sneaky he gets. Like NINJA in emotional stakes, I am surprised myself.
IDK if there'll be more in this 'verse... I've sort of left it behind me, now. Its original intention was to be the first in a set of "teams Torchwood Three never was" AUs, so we'll see how that goes!

Oh well! Any new Torchwood story from you is fantastic news, so I'm happy either way.

Yeah, the more I think about this story and its Freaks allusions, the more baggage it seems to have - originally it was just sort of a vehicle for the tongue-in-cheek reference of rolling around under circus waggons and chanting "one of us! one of us!" ... but really, it fit too well. Turns out this is pretty much an articulation of how I think Jack fits into the Torchwood team! he's not so much the heroic leader guiding a bunch of poor emotional misfits with his aged wisdom, but is pretty much just as fucked up as the rest of them.
AND THAT'S WHY THEY ALL LOVE EACH OTHER SOOOOO MUCH.
Er. /ramble.

Mainframe whickers as he nears the makeshift yard, probably scenting his approach even as he can detect her; manure and chaff and horse sweat. He smoothes his palm over her forehead where her headdress was, stroking the nap of her hide back to rights. She jerks her head, snorting into the feedbag, and Toshiko appears, bobbing around Mainframe’s shoulder.
I liked the grittiness of the traveling show, the smells, the running makeup, and Gwen's hoarse voice- it matches nicely with the grittiness of Torchwood and the sense that it is a very thin veneer that allows either of these professions to appear thrilling or glamorous.
I don't know if you intend to continue this, but it would be really cool if you could somehow work it that the 'team' became the Night Travelers (though perhaps they''d manage without an 'audience'). (Sorry, couldn't resist angling for that.)

Loved the way you brought in the canon we knew and wove it in there with this very different AU.
Would love to know the back story to Ianto's amputation, and I'm assuming more serious disfigurement as well if the child's response was anything to go by.
I'm just cobsmacked actually.
Wonderful piece of writing.

Though it was a while ago that I wrote it, now, I think I've still got in my head how I tied in all those intricacies with canon and Ianto's disfigurement. Someone requested I write more in a timestamp meme, so hopefully I'll be able to squeeze some more of it out :)
Thank you again!!
