Indifference isn't necessarily rudeness, people are generally polite and it's rare that I have complaints. But I've noticed considerably more warmth directed towards my male travelling companion. As I've said in my ETA, I do feel that the looming attitude of "women shouldn't travel on their own" influences how people behave towards me when I'm travelling on my own.
