Havens fics are so very, very sad, though I do love the insights in this one. Sam doesn't want to live forever, just long enough to see Frodo one last time and bring closure to his life. And he hopes, doubts, that Frodo is still there for him to see. *ack*

Such a small thing, blink and you'll miss it, but this little parenthetical observation moved me most of all. In all the agonizing about how he would "never really heal," it's so often overlooked that Frodo was restored to himself, and not to the utter madness that both he and Gandalf expected if the Ring was taken from him by force. Wounded, but not destroyed. Is the glass half-empty or half-full? If you're Frodo, you probably say "half-empty and evaporating rapidly." ;-)
Anyway, your crafting and use of language in this one is just lovely. Nicely done.
