Even as confirmed a non-F/S a person as I am, this was so so so ... just yummy and lovely and sad and sweet.

I *loved* this paragraph the most:

Frodo would be more used to the water here, Sam thought - having grown up on the Brandywine and all. Though the clear chatter of that water was a far sight from this. Sam couldn't swim, but he'd seen Frodo move through the water as if he were born in it. "It always has been for me, sir, I can't see myself doing anything else."

Ack. It's just so full of *stuff* about the two of them, the past lives, their thought and experience, their ease in the world. Lovely.

yes. the whole fic is a metaphor... for my burgeoning obsession with foreshadowing. and past-shadowing. and symbolism. and and... heh. it's not even about the characters anymore! who needs plots!
