from a walkway across swanston street, looking towards the cbd. no effects as i was taking it; cropping, levels and saturation alteration and some touching up in photoshop.
it's quite menacing, that front-on, centered framing. normally i would wonder why you hadn't framed it so there was a diagonal movement, but it really works with the trams. scary.
hmm, menacing, yeah. i don't think it would be a very interesting photo if it was 'diagonal movement' (though i think the convergence of the lines of the road with the perspective of the shot does give it some variety, and the varying straight lines of the buildings...); i just love that vertical line straight down from the building in the center of the photo right along the street to where i'm standing. i waited for that gap in the clouds to get right behind the building too... the balance would be totally different if it wasn't.
ps am loving this journal.
yay! me too. i tend to be scared/paranoid of taking photos when i'm out in public, something i ought to get over if i want to do 3rd year photography, hah. it's kind of cool going "ok, today i have to take a good photo. what of? where?" etc. heh.
:) thankyou! the original picture was no where near as interesting (with the blues especially), but once i altered the levels to the extreme that sky and those buildings really leaped out... unfortunately blackening out most of the rest of the picture, heh. yep, this one reuired a lot of photoshopping.
the weather was insane this evening (i took this at about 6.45) - half the sky was clear and blue with brilliant sunlight and the opposite half was virtually black with clouds. the wind was electric and crisp and wow.
it was pretty cool. all these brilliantly sun-lit spring trees and period houses against such a dark sky.
wow, that's stunning! I love what you've done with the colours in this shot.
You are very much making me want to have my own picspam journal, but I don't have a digital camera yet so I guess it will have to wait and I will just have to be jealous of you.
Oh, wow. This is just awesome. It's gutsy and bold, with a hint of metropolitan edge... and with the effects added, it takes on such an alien world feel. I'm seriously in love with this shot.

Also, it's nifty seeing a tram. I want to ride one again! Ah, i'm such a child.

digital cameras are grate. yepyep. they're good for learning to take risks - most of my best photos i would never 'waste film' on. if you follow me.

Brilliant sky, brilliant trees, I esp. like the blues and greens.
Thanks for sharing!

i'm glad the blues & greens turned out - i had to tweak it a bit, and was worried it was too bright/solid.
