oh my god, you guys! (a rec)
Pairing: Pendragon/Merlin by Anon.
In which Arthur is a BNF and Merlin is his beta.
This story gave me SUCH A GINORMOUS HAPPY. (And meta fic usually gives me a ginormous embarrassment squick!) It really is more fandom fanfiction than Merlin fanfiction, and it's beautifully done. Being a BNF! Being a NNF! How emotionally invested in fandom you are, and how it makes you feel hopelessly in love! And all the lexicon, and the mediums, and... Everything!
I think it's kind of interesting that a story that's so quintessentially about fandom stars a couple of guys, but interesting a twisty meta kind of way.
ANYWAY. Read it!

My alternate castings:
BNF writer: Jeff, approx season 25 when he will have grown enough as a human to be a self aware as the character in the story
Beta: Annie
BNF writer: Poirot
Beta: Hastings
BNF writer: Watson
Beta: Mary Morstan (CANONICAL BASIS IN 2009 MOVIE!)
BNF writer: Stuart
Beta: Vince
(Okay, yeah, about as convincing as Arthur/Merlin!)

But yes, that, and the Any Two Guys nature of it, was kind of meta in itself (though perhaps not self-reflexively?)
BNF writer: Watson
Beta: Sherlock
amirite?

*And also unlike actual Merlin who is very confident and great with people who aren't Arthur or most magic users.

Watson writes Sherlock fanfiction, Sherlock reads it and cuttingly critiques it for being too schmoopy.
