casey's bedroom - annotated
1 maggots! lovely little parasitic alien things there taken with a macro lense.
2 a bunch of herrington high students wearing huge hornett masks.
3 looks like someone fallen asleep across their desk. wish there was more of this in the shot.
4 hornets footballers wearing alienesque insect masks
5 blue-toned photo of someone in a herrington jacket. this appears on the opposite wall as well.
6 a macro of an insect 'face'
7 looks like more maggots, exactly the same as the b&w ones in 1, only this one is horizontal instead of vertical and in colour.
8 a butterfly - like the one casey photographs at the end, heh.

casey sure does have a thing for those scary insect-esque things, doesn't he? the link between casey's seeming obsession with that and the whole hornets football team thing makes me think that it might be more than just one big reference to the giant insect films of the 50s. then again, the monster that appears in the film isn't the original design - they had to come up with a new one at the last minute because the original design was leaked. maybe the original monster was more insect-esque?
anyway. i'm thinking more and more that you could read the film as one big hallucination/fantasy of poor old casey. it works.

Set design.
17 is a picture of wrestlers at a match. In the still that numbers 7,8,9 are in there is a poster of a Mexican wrestler, who wear masks as part of their costume. I think Casey has some sort of image processing program open on his computer and that's how he's making the insect heads.
The missing trophy/maquette is a continuity error, but it's interesting that he has a lot of red 2nd place ribbons. He's good, but not the best it seems.
I wonder if they borrowed some of Elijah's actual shorts for this scene? :)
Good idea of this being a hallucination of Casey's. Although, he might just have Asperger's Syndrome, heh. If he's imagining everyone at school *except* Delilah as an insect, then it makes perfect sense for him to actually discover REAL insectoid alien parasites taking over the school. It's exactly what he's hoped for (or feared).

Or one could take a more paranoid spin on it and see Casey's fascination with the insectoid as suggesting his sympathies/similarities to the alien queen. Although it could very well be a terrified fascination too. It could be Casey as the classic male hero fighting against the engulfing female with her powerful, out of control sexuality. The images of the football players as insects suggest the fear, and yet he favours the insect image in his aesthetic choices, so perhaps it is fear/identification. Perhaps he IS the alien queen.
Poor kid, he really did need a shrink.

If I am ever moved to write more Faculty fanfic, and I hope I am, what I am interested in bringing out is the geeky science part of Casey: It's there, dammit! I am interested in your alternate possible reading of the film as one big hallucination *ponders*
