Sorry, 40 year old, happily married, hetrosexual woman *slumps*

I guess you rather not have me answer that poll. Right?

[identity profile] songbirds.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not middle aged. Only 23.

[identity profile] futureperfect.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 06:50 am (UTC)(link)

Sorry! I'm afraid I fit the stereotype exactly.

44, straight(ish, though open to suggestions), single. Boring. Just ate chocolate. Watching ROTK special features. Reading/writing pron. Wanting more chocolate. Any of that any use?

<--- OMG so stereotypical

[identity profile] vshendria.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
How about probably straight but open to experimentation seeing as my sex life is more or less hypothetical? I am not middle aged (35 doesn't count as middle aged, right?) and I am definitely not married.

[personal profile] ex_mrs260625 2004-10-31 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Female-to-male transsexual, single, gay, late 20s. Been a slasher since I was 11.

[identity profile] linaelyn.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I consider myself straight as a board (but I can be warped) and also rather Queer.

I do not fit inside the box.

But within the bounds of any "official research," somehow magically conducted with the knowlege of everything i've ever done and everything i've ever thought and everyone i've ever perved on? They'd come to the concusion that I'm Straight.

Or a Gay man, in a woman's body, maybe.

[identity profile] undone27.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I know I checked "not-straight", but I'm actually in a celibate marriage. So by societal standards I'm straight, but I'm more of an asexual/post-sexual person. Just thought I might try to confuse your data a bit.

[identity profile] undone27.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not "straight" because I'm definitely not conforming to the societal role of a spouse in a heterosexual marriage, and that I do feel attraction to women and men equally, but not strong enough for me to feel a sexual attraction. I've found that after years of not having sex, I don't miss it.

[identity profile] crantz.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
19, taken by a woman, bi, A DUDE. See? Not all slash fans are straight middle aged married women.

I'm a bisexual, poly woman married to a bisexual poly man (and I'm 34 - is that middle aged? and white.) But yeah, I'm highly dubious of the "all slashers are straight girls" argument. . .

[identity profile] lizzie-omalley.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Middle aged, straight, female, but totally and at last mostly contentedly, single.

Here under Captain Jack [livejournal.com profile] linaelyn Sparrow's orders.

I am female, 23 and bisexual, in a long-term same-gender relationship. Definitely not the stereotype!

25, single, queer womyn. I can and have slept with men, but I don't have relationships with them. So ... yeah. Not the stereotype.

Hey! I found the link to this from the daily LotR wrap up...Would you mind sharing your final poll results with me? I'm doing a thesis on slash fiction, and I was going to post a similar poll to this in a few days. It would save me a ton of time and also get a broader response base. Thanks for considering!

[identity profile] luna-k.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[here via friends-friends]

Not *all* people who read/write slash are going to be heterosexual married women, but a whole hell of a lot of them are. That's why the stereotype exists in the first place!

I think the real question that popped into my head when I saw this, and what compelled me to comment (because dude, this arguement comes up every week OMG) was, "Why does it matter, and what exactly is this person trying to prove"?

In my couple years in fandom, it's been my experience that the VAST majority (like, 98%) of slashers are either heterosexual married women in their 30's/40's, or heterosexual girls in their late teens/20's. They read this stuff for the same reasons straight men love lipstick lesbian porn... because it's hot, because it's intriguing/subversive/something different. But you know, fandom is a weird place. I've also come across lesbians who read only male/male slash, lesbians who read only het fic, gay men who read femmeslash, etc.

For the record, I'm a bisexual girl (aged 25) who mostly reads het and femmeslash, but occasionally reads male/male slash. However you want to categorize that on your poll. :D

[identity profile] luna-k.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I should also clarify, not all people reading/writing slash are into it just because of "teh pretty". Lots of my good friends write slash that is all about the relationship dynamics and doesn't even have sexual content.

Also, when I say "The VAST majoriy (like 98%)", I'm totally pulling those numbers out of my ass. I'm not a statician, I'm just speaking from my experiences with the people I've met online.

40. Married, polygamous. Queer. Lived in a woman/woman/man triad for 12 years. Currently have a male life partner, a female long distance lover, a casual female lover in the same city.

Came here per Lin's orders.

27, single at the moment, white girl. I guess I would define myself as bi with poly leanings , but I put in undecided because that's more what it feels like. Too much pretty out there to fully choose one route. ;-)

[identity profile] penm.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
15, single; straight girl. Or rather a queer man trapped in a girl's body. Much more fitting.

[identity profile] sumbitch.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
two more for the lesbo side! *pumps fist*

18, straight female, not married, thank goodness :D

[identity profile] chuckjd.livejournal.com 2004-10-31 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Welp,. I'm 17, single, and bi. Deffinitely not any of those stereotypical criteria.

18. Female. Not straight, not single..yay :D

Answered the poll, but also wanted to let you know about a similar one done in popslash fandom about a year and a half ago, here:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/pop_tarts/156748.html
in case you're interested. Of more than 300 respondents, more than 60 percent self-identified as "queer."

There's another survey, 1,000 respondents, from about a year ago here:
http://slashcity.org/rushlight/slashsurvey.html
Average sexuality, measured on the Kinsey scale, was 1.82 - which, as the survey-er pointed out in the observations, is closer to bisexualism than heterosexualism. The LJ post where the survey originated, with some more discussion in the comments, is here:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/rushlight75/27483.html
if you're interested.

41, married, straight.

I categorised myself as straight as all my sexual experiences have been with men (and since I'm married that's not likely to change) but I have been attracted to one or two women. In other circumstances I might have considered myself bisexual, but as things stand I've never had the opportunity to explore that side of my sexuality.

[identity profile] airgiodslv.livejournal.com 2004-11-02 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
BREASTS!

I mean, er, 21, single, bisexual but rather attracted to girly bits. Whee!
