That's soldiering.
Watched a couple more episodes of Sharpe today. oh Sharpe. how i love thee.
I think Sharpe's Siege might by my very favourite episode, mainly because of the married couple!banter betwixt Major Sharpe and Sargeant-Major Harper. AHAHAH. I'm cracking up just thinking about it now. The tea! oh, the tea. And the tooth! the "he's not doing it, you're going to do it!" and Harper swallowing the blood and Sharpe like "don't waste it! spit it out on your chest!" oh, so inappropriate. good soldiers.
I liked Sharpe's Mission for the same reasons - the domestic scenes. "no up and down for two months!" and all the stuff with the journalist/poet. bwa. oh, they so loco.
Also, I think I kind of like Jane. does that make me a bad Sharpe fan? I still think Sharpe and Harper are married, though (does that make me a bad Sharpe fan?).
and while I'm talking about Sharpe, here's a Sharpe dream i had the other night that
frivol is FORCING me to post about in my lj:
First, I was Sharpe, and me and my regiment were attacking some town or something, and then the French got the upper hand, and were blowing stuff up. So i was running from room to room, trying not to get blown up, when i ran into a room where a semi-naked woman was attempting to bathe. So of course, being Sharpe, I grabbed the woman and used her as a human shield to get away from the French (ie. they wouldn't shoot me if i were bodily holding a semi-naked woman). As I was Sharpe, of course the woman was all to pleased to go along with my plan for escape and allow herself to be a human shield. We ended up in a forest (my usual dream-forest, which somewhat resembles my mind's eye picture of the forest in The Magician's Nephew), and wandered around there for quite a while, being in love. Then the dream changed a little, and I was the woman instead of Sharpe, and Sharpe had gone off to war again and I was left to wander in the forest alone, as I was still a fugitive. years had passed; I had a young child, about toddler age, that's how i could tell time had passed. I eventually wandered into this small village where I spoke to some people. My child, of which Sharpe was the father, of course, was called Baby (creative, I know). and baby, being Sharpe's child, had some magical power where it knew if Sharpe was still alive or not. (I think the exact term Baby used was 'Daddy'.) Yes, my dream!self was struck by the absurdity of this, but at the same time I was conscious that this was the Sharpe-universe I was in, thus everything was indeed slightly cheesy, unrealistic and somewhat ridiculous. So it was all alright, and I could be cynically amused by the fact that Baby knew that Daddy was still alive, and also be all hopeful for his eventual return and miss him in his absence.
Anyhoo. Hope you're happy now,
frivol!

But 'slightly cheesy, unrealistic and somewhat ridiculous'?
What DO you mean?! I hope that was said with love!
I am up to Mission too, but yesterday was a Sharpe write-off. Damn it.
I love Sharpe. Just saying.
And of course you are free to love any characters you wish, but liking Jane? Surely, noooooo!

why does everyone hate jane?

She was Simmerson's niece, after all!
Possibly, for the hard-core fans, it's also about real life and the story line all mixed up- or possibly there's no rational reason for it at all- thus, fandom!
But there's a music vid entitled Sharpesbitch, which is entirely appropriate, methinks!
BTW- I've got the Sharpe cd, if you wants it. :)
