okay, so recently i've obtained and consumed:

Battlestar Galactica (S1)
Carnivale (S1)
Dead Like Me (S1)
Deadwood (S1)
Firefly
Queer As Folk (UK)
Sharpe
Veronica Mars (S1)
Wonderfalls

TV DVDs I'd like to obtain and consume:

Due South
Rome
Stargate Atlantis
Supernatural (started watching this on TV, want to mainline it though).
The L Word (have seen most of S1)

My dad is buying, on a recommendation, Hex. Any comments on this one? anyone seen it?

I'm also vaguely thinking about the new season of Doctor Who, and other period pieces like Hornblower.

Flist, your time has come yet again. Recommend me good TV shows to watch!

I really really need Carnivale on DVD :-(

Oh, and as far as recs go - Six Feet Under. I love it. Or Arrested Development.

Who watches TV on TV anymore?

I managed to mainline one and a half seasons of Atlantis, the fan meta is what got me in. It has Space Vampires. =D

I used to stay up till the wee hours of the night/morning to watch Due South. *sigh*
Oh the Canadian casting.

The new season of Doctor Who is just fabulous, I loved the show as a kid. The first (new) season was not like the kids show it turned into towards the end of the last one, thankfully.

I'm dying to get my hands on a show called Hamish MacBeth (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~blinda/hamish3.htm). Apparently it's out on DVD somewhere.

I found a torrent of a pilot on line called Global Frequency, it was never picked up and never televised but it's good. I liked it anyway, the kind of show I'd love to watch, all dark and weird.

due South is my LIFE. It lives with Firefly on my pedestal of Best TV Ever. ...Um, anyway. If for some reason you can't find the dvd box sets, I know of a place where you can download all the episodes (at varying quality and three eps per day, but it's free and available, so hey!). If you're in need of that, drop me an e-mail: travellingjacksawyer@yahoo.com

(I have also recently consumed eps 1-4 of SGA and found it to be pretty good. As for Rome? OMG THAT SHOW IS AWESOME. Rome is all kinds of fantastic. Prison Break is also reeeeally good. 24 and Alias are also fun to watch. OH!! And man, if you like Firefly? You would possibly love Farscape. A sci-fi show about friends and family and characters and asjadlaaskl *uses appropriate icon*.

I second you on Due South.

As a Canadian I am obligated to recommend Due South, but I would anyway because it is sooo good.

For my own part, I am currently tearing through the two seasons of Arrested Development. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's absolutely top-notch. It's what other TV shows should wish they would be.

Due South is absolute love. I'm always surprised when I find people that know/remember it. I've been watching my DVDs lately. They're so perfect for a nice cheer up.

For a rec... Jeeves and Wooster is a good time. I would definitely try that. Hilarity all around.

You've likely seen or know all about these, but here are my recommendations and two bobs worths:

I liked Hornblower quite a bit. Ioan Gruffudd is edible. The DVDs are on weekly loan at our library.

I'm waiting with bated breath for the new Dr. Who and praying to the TV deity that as people keep saying it is indeed a step up from the dissapointment of last season. David Tennant makes me quite gaga.

Farscape is of course mandatory. As mentioned above, fiesty friends on the run together in space with oodles of sexual tension/perverse frissons — all the key ingredients. Abjection, humor, sexiness, suspense and pathos all rolled in to one. Stunning cgi, cinematography, music, sets and costumes. Kick-arse babes. Cross-dressing and gender ambiguity. Left-wing politics and ethical provocation. Heaps of unrecuperated subversion. Twisty subplots. And there's Ben Browder's leather-clad buns. And leather in general.
I can lend these whenever as I am moving on to a chapter about Buffy for a while.

La Femme Nikita (season 1 is also at the library but only on overnight reserve, which is annoying but you can still take it for a weekend). I do like a good espionage drama. Hi-tech, gismos, guns, mind manipulation, corrupt authorities, underground European terror cells. Slashy potential. And it's Canadian. I've been meaning to watch this again myself as I never got all the way to the end of the final season.

Spooks is also excellent if you like espionage.

I've been meaning to check out Harsh Realm — military VR action/sci-fi thing by Chris Carter. It's in the library also.

Chances. Gratuitous nakedness. Neo-Nazi vampires. Therianthrope-inducing jewlery. Carnivorous plants. A bevvy of australian acting talent. Best viewed in the company of good-humored friends and a bottle or three of something.

Babylon 5. Seems as though it's going to be like Trek, but isn't. Intelligent and hugeley complex arc unfolding over 5 seasons. I especially love the PsiCorps (evil agency controling all telepaths).

Jeremiah. I still haven't watched this but have it on tape. It's also by J. M. Straczynski. Post-apocalyptic lord-of-the flies only kids survive a viral plague. Luke Perry does wistful angsty looks on his journey through a dystopian wasteland.

Ultra Violet 1998 British vampire/thriller miniseries. I only caught a bit of this but rather liked it and would like to see it all if I get the chance.
