Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.

Yesterday I stole Karen and made her watch the first two Die Hard films with me. I totally love #4 even more, now.

I love action films. Mainly, I love seeing them at the cinema. I had never seen a Die Hard film before I went to see #4 at the theatre about a month ago, and I'm surprised by how much I heart its cheesy goodness.

It was weird and awesome to see how WEE McClane was in the first one, and how his character has changed by the 4th. One of the things I enjoyed most about the 4th one was the MAD MACGUYVER SKILLZ OF IMPROVISATION! It's something I love in action films as much as the fact that fight scenes are choreographed these days; the creative staging of action sequences. It's one of the things I love most about the Bourne films - that uber-skilled action hero who can fashion a killing machine out of a burnt match and a bag of sugar.

Anyway, my point is, I love #4 even more now after seeing how innocent and unskilled McClane is in the first two films. He's just winging it, constantly with the monologue of "this sucks, why me!?" By the fourth he's totally beat down and jaded. He's learnt it all the hard way. Bourne was trained to be slick and badass, McClane had to learn it on the fly and at great price, and he certainly isn't slick, but I love that he doesn't complain any more, just sucks it up and deals (with a kind of bitter enjoyment).

Which brings me to:

[Poll #1053382]

As if there is any QUESTION!

ETA: *chants* JOHN! JOHN! JOHN!

I need to get hold of Die Hard 3, now.

I fucking HEART the Die Hard quadrilogy however much I hate that word. :DD

#3 is my absolute favourite (although holy shit, the amount of 9/11 parallels in that film are really terrifying in hindsight), because it's kind of the quintessential Die Hard film, for me. Every time someone brings it up, that's the one I think of. (#2 is my least favourite because wow, it's kind of shit. ...But in a really awesome, 'Hey! Shit blows up good' sort of way.)

p.s: I maintain - in a McClane/Winchester deathmatch - that the end result would be the two of them going out and getting really drunk while reminiscing about all the stupid shit that's happened to them and then they done sex.

If you haven't managed to get ahold of it by Friday, let me know and I'll lend you my copy. :D (Samuel L. Jackson is in it too! And his character is called Zeus! ...That kind of sums up the awesome, really.)

*ahahahah* I can so see that happening. I love that Lucy is just a tiny girl John! And is totally badass all by herself! (Did you hear that Bruce Willis wanted Justin Timberlake to play John Jr.? That would have been hilaaaarious.)

Sure! I'll be over at Mary's, so if I don't see you I can leave it with her. :)

I heart the Die Hard movies. :) One of the things I loved is that it's about the same guy and I really love his character.

how is McClane not winning?!

*sniffs indignantly* I have loved McClane since I was in elementary school. I refuse to believe he would not win.

He can blow you up with a COP CAR if he runs out of bullets.

one of my absolute favorite lines from 1 is -as he bangs his head against the wall- "Think! Godamnit, Think!"

Had those days, yes indeed. had those days.

When the first one came out, and yes I remember it, the weirdest thing about the film was that Bruce Willis had only done Moonlighting, a romantic comedy sitcom.

It'd be like Chandler from Friends being cast in the Bourne films.

I do really love the first one.

Ohhh, I'm SO nostalgic NOW!
Haven't seen any of the Die Hard in a long time, but loved them (big bad ass destroy everything on his path McClane, how can one NOT love him!), haven't seen 4 yet, but will eventually :)

Winchester/McClane would be a meeting of Titans, but I'm with Audrey, they'd end up sniffing each other, growling a little, then drunk *G*

DIE HARD -all 4

There is a formula to these movies but I love the formula. It always John McClane- stuck in a terrible deadly situation trying to do the best he can -and always being put down by the "authority" figures- the professionals who SHOULD be able to handle the situation, trying to push him out of the way-stop him- or ignore him. Then he- with the help of some ordinary (non-professional -not a soldier or FBI guy or SWAT team member) giving him help- the Twinkie cop in 1 and 2; the chauffeur in #1; the guy in the basement of #2; the Jackson character in 3 and the computer geeks in #4. He- and the non-pros- end up saving the day - often with the smart ass "superiors" ending up dead or looking REALLY stupid- i always think of the FBI guys in the 1st movie who are so arrogant and dismissive of ALL the local people ending up blown away.
i think I've always liked situations where the best win- not just the people with the credentials - to paraphrase SPOCK when explaining to Dr. McCoy why Spock should go on the dangerous mission, not the doctor. The same theme was in TWISTER an I liked it there too. I'm hoping there will be a #5.
