I started to read that new, highly-recced Torchwood fic where Jack goes all "The Shining" on the team, but a paragraph or few in I abandoned it to go re-read that story where he and Ianto adopt an infant Ewok instead.

Yeah, I'm not really cut out for darkfic in this fandom. Need to keep my blood sugar levels up in order to write the crackfic (latest development: SEX POLLEN*).

* Note to self: think up clever sciency name for aforementioned sex pollen.

Yeah, you're right - "crack" is pretty redundant when the canon practically has yakity sacks playing in the background already.

well I was going to give the Monkey Paw story a chance but when there was no link at bottom or top of the post to the next part...I decided against reading the story.

ugh, I hate that!! especially when it's like, a billion-part story and the only link is to the tag on the author's journal, which is not at all helpful when they only display 5 posts per page and you have to skip back a million just to locate the start of the story. And each subsequent part.

Might read it when I'm desperate. I hear it's good, but I'm not really in the mood.

I have over 600 stories on delicious tagged toread (and these are stories recced to me) I think i'd have to be VERY desperate to bother with a story when the author can't even bother to make a post with all the links to every part of the story in one location. This is becoming a big pet peeve of mine on LJ.

My other pet peeve is really unreadable layouts - fixed-width (I tend to zoom to read easier), white-on-black text (or, heaven forbid, fluoro blue-on-black)... Don't know what I'd do if not for ?style=mine.

I have a javascript LJ style=mine in my bookmark toolbar so all I have to do is hit that button if I get to a LJ with bad color combos. Now what really kills me is when the LJ poster goes out of their way to make sure their story looks bad so that even style=mine can't fix it. (I think it's the rich text editor that disables style=mine)

oooh. Do you have instructions for making that javascript button? I installed greasemonkey but I'm too lazy to follow up on how to work the damn thing.

And yeah, I know - rich text editing is the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE!! Everyone seemed to manage perfectly fine before they brought that on!!

http://www.jwz.org/hacks/bookmarklets.html I went here found the LJ style=mine and dragged the url up to my toolbar. Then re-named it so it's shorter..but it should be as easy as drag and drop.

Oh My God. Your post just brought back a lost memory of what was probably my very first attempt at fic. I was probably about 7 years old and I wrote a massive (maybe 3 pages long!) story about an Ewok and his very exciting adventures. I don't remember Jack and Ianto featuring in it though...

"Wicket the Ewok" was my very very favouritest board game when I was a kid. I think it was truly one of my earliest escapist fanficcish worlds. I was sorely disappointed when I got around to watching Star Wars properly that the Ewok community didn't feature more prominently.
