We Happy Few has not had a terrible lot of feedback and I'm still terribly fond of it, I've been watching my google analytics to have warm fuzzies over just how many hits it's been getting (and digging out the occasional rec, hurrah).
BUT THIS CONFUSES ME, FLIST: The top referral domain for that story is community.livejournal.com, which makes sense - it's divided up between
torch_wood,
torchwood_fic and
torchwood_house. BUT THEN, the bit that baffles me - the majority of the top ten referrers after that are people's friends pages. Like, seriously, the next two after the communities are two friends pages in particular - each of which bring AT LEAST one hit per day *for the past month*.
I am confounded. These people don't even have my friended, so they wouldn't be getting it from me (even if I did link to the story every day, which I don't). And links have not been posted on the communities listed above for at least a month. And generally, if there's been a rec somewhere that people are clicking on, there'll be a referral listed there from the particular entry. But there's not.
Any ideas?
ETA: tangent, but still related; I must say the most enjoyable feedback for this story has been in situations such as sitting having a quiet cuppa with someone who says wistfully out of the blue, "I wish I had a cloak made of ties."

Rediscovered Wordle, which creates beautiful word clouds of text you paste in/rss feeds you enter.
I spent far too long with the "randomize" button, but this is probably my favourite one for We Happy Few: ( Cut for size )
When I have a printer (and a wall!) I think I'll print out that one and put it on my wall. It's like a condensed trigger of word joy!
I also like how the font/positioning etc makes it look like a poster for a pulp/retro novel or something.
Ah, I wish I had a story on the go now so I could immerse myself in writing again.
ETA: It's so tempting to create word clouds for each story and just have that as the story summary. Though, that'd probably end up shiny for me, annoying for everyone else. Still, such a great visual snapshot.
We Happy Few, even though each of my brief piecemeal re-reads include tiny fixes here and there. Such is publishing, I spose.
But people are reading! And reccing! And loving it as much as I do! Is it bad form to be very fond of your own work? If so, I'm the least classiest lady ever.
In future fannish news, I've started writing a bit of Gwen/Morgana PWP for the Merlin fandom, but have yet to complete it. All those ideas for Torchwood/Who fics seem to have slipped by the wayside a little when I ran out of Torchwood fic to read (and resorted to reading Merlin fic instead).
I'm a bit overwhelmed with RL at the moment, though, so perhaps productive fannish activities will have to resume in a couple of weeks. (WHEN I'M ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD OMG!)
I continue to love

Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Various permutations, duplications and confabulations of Tosh, Owen, Ianto & Gwen.
Warnings: See: 'Pairings'. Also: group sex, slapstick, abuse of science, abuse of fashion, abuse of Whoniverse minutiae, liberal advantages taken of 'alien tech'. Spoilers for things that occur up to the end of season 2 of Torchwood and season 3 of Doctor Who.

Summary: Jack's a captive on the Valiant and the Master has initiated the extinction of humanity. Meanwhile, in Cardiff, the imminent threat has triggered a lockdown of the Hub, trapping the Torchwood Three team inside. For a year. (A "year-that-wasn't" story of exceeding silliness.)

If all goes to plan I will be posting my Torchwood crackfic this weekend.
OMG!
I've finished the first round of beta edits on the crackfic, which resulted in pushing the word count up to over 48,000. I just have to expand on a couple more sections (!), then send to second beta.
IT IS TRULY A BEHEMOTH.

I think I might have just finished my fic.
46,131 words (!)
Subject to a lot of change, as I now really really need to edit it.
HOMG!
:O
ETA: I think that now it's actually hit 40,000, google docs is struggling to handle it. It keeps on having a network error instead of saving. And will only let me cop 40,000 words of it to the clipboard. zomfg, I might just have to split up the bloody file just to work on it!
I had been planning on posting it as one long page as well, but now I'm wondering if I should split it up into parts/chapters. OH SIGH.
Total words written today (so far):
Total words of this that are porn: 1,111
:O :O :O
ZOMG. POSTERITY, YALL.
This is now officially the longest thing I've ever written.
*forges onward*
I'm now determined for it to break my record. (And how much do I love that the AOOO has an auto-wordcount? And lets me order by wordcount, asc or desc? *geeks out*)
One day I may finish uploading all my works to the Archive. If I can bear looking at that early LOTR stuff ever again. *cringe*
I think that for now I'll continue posting fic to my website anyway, then after a few weeks (usually by which I've re-read AGAIN and cleaned up MORE typos etc) I'll be able to archive a version that I won't be needing to tweak in more than one place.

Yeah, I'm not really cut out for darkfic in this fandom. Need to keep my blood sugar levels up in order to write the crackfic (latest development: SEX POLLEN*).

To celebrate, ( have an excerpt )
Meanwhile, every so often I transition between google docs to neo office to microsoft word to text pad and grrr, they all do things annoyingly differently. Like erase paragraph breaks or not actually copy & paste the entire thing. It worries me. Maybe I'll just carry it around on a USB stick and periodically email myself the file.
If I lost any of it, I think I might cry. IT JUST DOESN'T BEAR THINKING ABOUT!
Right, back to it. Perhaps I'll heat up some rum as an accompaniment.
Still have no title for it, but am gradually brainstorming a list at the top of the document which includes the suggestion, "Bored of the Flies".
The end of the document has the bullet-pointed map of the rest of the plot and reminders of scenes I want to include. The second-last bullet-point is "That Doctor is a total shit, let's bond over macaroni greeting cards!"
Oh, fic. One day you will be complete. And on that day I will probably wake up thinking "WTF????"
I must finish it before christmas at least, dammit.
( excerpt from latest scene )
I am constantly racking my brains to think up a title for this beast. The document it's occuring is called "Lost.doc", to account for the desert island scenario, but it doesn't really stand up to a final draft.
OH GOD CRACK FICS AREN'T MEANT TO BE THIS LONG WHAT AM I DOING?!

If I post and email everyone about it, then I'm actually THINKING about it, therefore I'm more likely to write it, see?
Last night I decided that it should be in past tense, therefore I should try and convert the entire thing to past tense, instead of being all over the place like it was. After changing a couple thousand words, I FORGOT WHAT PAST TENSE WAS. I was changing words and I had no idea if I was meant to. My brain, WHAT.
Now I don't know if I want to have it in past tense after all. The first bit was, but then once I got into it I'd slipped into present tense again. *hands*
Also, it's growing so quickly because I keep getting ideas for scenes so I just tack them onto the end of the document to deal with later. Meanwhile, the planned progression for the plot is waiting further up the document for me to continue with it. The document now has over6600 8000 (WOT) words in it, altogether. Eep!
Also, I want to share the best bits, like Tosh making Ianto cry by trying to throttle him in a fit of rage, but I don't want to spoil them. *heavy sigh*
My life, so hard.

So, Whoniverse/Red Dwarf crossover, Y/Y?
Lister, Kryten, Rimmer, Cat, Holly: This is so crap! We're three million years from earth, floating on a space ship the size of a city but with no one but each other for company. And, more importantly, no one to shag!
Jack: HELLO! I've come to have sex with everyone! YES I MEAN EVERYONE!
