My canon has measuring tape

One of the fanfiction tropes that really doesn't gel with me in Torchwood Jack/Ianto slash is the one where Ianto's body structure/type is lean and delicate (in contrast to Jack's beefy manliness, of course). Because, seriously, even knowing of the epic airbrushing of torsos in The Hothouse Scene, are you BLIND?

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DENY THE EXISTENCE OF THAT ADORABLE POT BELLEH??

And speaking of, one of the reasons I love this cast diary video so much is because of the extended groping-of-John-Barrowman's-muffin-top scene [around 1.30 timestamp].

*cackles with glee*

Meanwhile, because naturally I cannot keep my 'shipping glee out of this post (not that I'm trying to), I have such epic love for these screencaps:

/end shippy ramble.

Oh, show fandom 'ship.

[screencaps yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] nikki4noo's picspams, which were previously yoinked from elsewhere, and so on ad infinitum...]

What I don't get is how people think Jack doesn't love Ianto. (I know why, in fic, *Ianto* might doubt it. But people write fic as if Jack really is just having fun and marking time until the next generation and next pretty face. But Jack's expression when he's looking at Ianto is so often that happy, in-love, fond-of-you, can-we-be-naked-yet smile. Jack looks at him like a man in love. How Ianto fans can't see that sometimes is beyond me...

(Jack may behave like someone who doesn't want to get married and set up house, but that isn't the same thing at all.)

Hi, Zort!

How ya been? Nice to run across you here.

I've found this a common thread across many fandoms -- to overgeneralize: if a character isn't the sort who doesn't want to get married and set up house, they are often perceived as additionally not able to feel and express True Love.

Because we all know that Love = Settling down and Marrying and An Exclusive Relationship and a Mortgage and Laundry and Dishes and Bloody Tax Forms. *eyeroll*

Not that there's anything wrong with Love looking like that, of course. *looks around at mortgage papers and tax forms signed last night by my partner*

Hi, Hope!

And here I was thinking that *you* said it better than *I* did. :-) Our comments each capture subtleties, and its good we each said our piece.

Also, this is one of the many reasons I love you -- shared beliefs & values about relationships. :-)

Hiya!

I'm always unamused at the number of slash stories that become All About Their Kids - because we all know that if you're in love, then your whole life must be about having and raising kids. Sheesh.

I've actually read a nice slashy romance story where they had kids, but the story was about *them* and their lives, and the kids were minor characters. Very nice change of pace.

I will say that it is nice to be married so that someone *else* does the dishes and laundry half the time. ;-) Major benefit!

Those last two caps make ms so happy I've been coming back to look at them off and on all day long. The look on Jack's face just melts me. *dreamy sigh*

Also, I totally want fic that's based on your mood icon.

Having been to most of Gareth's gigs and having ample photographic evidence of that cute belly of his which tends to increase in mass whenever he's not on screen - the whole "Ianto is thin and lithe" trope cracks me up. He did look incredibly slender in one of the filming photos but when I told him he looked slim he responded that clearly I meant he looked "buff".

But they've never been that good at filming Barrowman or GDL in a way that makes them look toned.

Still according to his facebook today apart from getting engaged Gareth is also "fat as fuck" - amused the hell out of me.

Oh I adore Gareth - although he might want to re-think some of the rock god poses sometimes at his gigs when he's wearing tight black t-shirts. I love that the little posse who go to his gigs are generally good about not posting the awful ones on line - I was quite selective in what I put up on the website.

Oh I have no problems with muffin tops and neither of them are big blokes anyway - JB especially is looking quite trim these days- all that insane Tigger on red bull dancing he's been doing for the song sections in Tonight's the Night.

Generally I don't tend to bother with Facebook but friended GDL an age ago - when he was in the US he used it a fair bit and provided everyone with much joy with the photos he posted which ranged from super cute ones of him and Gemma to downright hilarious - he announced his engagement on their today.

GDL is so so so far from Ianto that it's not at all difficult to keep them separate - he's quite the actor!

I love Ianto but I prefer GDL - moody bastard and all.

Tonight's the Night starts on Saturday but I've been to every taping so far - there are recaps in my journal. JB's looking good - live it's a fantastic show - will be interesting to see how it edits together. The tapings are fab - so far he's managed to embarrass every family member or friend he's bought with him to the show by making them sing - his partner Scott, sister Carole, his publisher, Daniel Boys...

My hotel's breakfast Ianto had lots of trouble with me not being a coffee drinker.

He had glasses and had to settle with trying to give me papers.

I figured it would be a while because we just got a Doctor Who episode. *sighs*

Why does Rusty have to cast actresses I like as his self insertion character?

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DENY THE EXISTENCE OF THAT ADORABLE POT BELLEH??

I know, right? And I mean... what? Look at those shoulders! He's not a tiny man.

Jack is really more compact than anything. If they resorted to fisticuffs, and speed/maneouverability weren't a factor, my money would be on Ianto.
