My canon has measuring tape
One of the fanfiction tropes that really doesn't gel with me in Torchwood Jack/Ianto slash is the one where Ianto's body structure/type is lean and delicate (in contrast to Jack's beefy manliness, of course). Because, seriously, even knowing of the epic airbrushing of torsos in The Hothouse Scene, are you BLIND?

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DENY THE EXISTENCE OF THAT ADORABLE POT BELLEH??
And speaking of, one of the reasons I love this cast diary video so much is because of the extended groping-of-John-Barrowman's-muffin-top scene [around 1.30 timestamp].
*cackles with glee*
Meanwhile, because naturally I cannot keep my 'shipping glee out of this post (not that I'm trying to), I have such epic love for these screencaps:

/end shippy ramble.
Oh,show fandom 'ship.

Iantofans can't see that sometimes is beyond me...(Jack may behave like someone who doesn't want to get married and set up house, but that isn't the same thing at all.)

Even if canon doesn't give us a lot to work with when it comes to the specific details of whatever sort of relationship they have, there's that undeniable foundation of Jack *being there* in season 2. He's in Cardiff because he chose to be, he's not All About The Doctor any more. And how many unsubtle hints does he drop about where his attention is focused now???
And anyway, having fun and can-we-be-naked-yet and whatnot, does not preclude love. It does not have to look exactly like this pre-packaged model of What A Relationship Is in order to actually *be* a loving relationship.
Um. /ramble
BTW, I am so glad you're all shippy and fannish about this at the same time as me. I think I'm a bit late to the party; it makes me sad to read fics from 2007 and see my flist in the comments being all excited, whereas they're well beyond caring about it now!
Hi, Zort!
I've found this a common thread across many fandoms -- to overgeneralize: if a character isn't the sort who doesn't want to get married and set up house, they are often perceived as additionally not able to feel and express True Love.
Because we all know that Love = Settling down and Marrying and An Exclusive Relationship and a Mortgage and Laundry and Dishes and Bloody Tax Forms. *eyeroll*
Not that there's anything wrong with Love looking like that, of course. *looks around at mortgage papers and tax forms signed last night by my partner*

Hi, Hope!
Also, this is one of the many reasons I love you -- shared beliefs & values about relationships. :-)
Hi, Lin!
Re: Hi, Zort!
I'm always unamused at the number of slash stories that become All About Their Kids - because we all know that if you're in love, then your whole life must be about having and raising kids. Sheesh.
I've actually read a nice slashy romance story where they had kids, but the story was about *them* and their lives, and the kids were minor characters. Very nice change of pace.
I will say that it is nice to be married so that someone *else* does the dishes and laundry half the time. ;-) Major benefit!
