And another shippy promo shot! (Finally omg, a pose where they're facing each other.) Though, JB's face looks to have had a serious case of the photoshoppery. Oh, promo shoots.
He's a long-suffering damsel, throwing himself on the mercy of the weird photoshopped alien in order to buy more time (for Jack to finish his breakfast. He gets grumpy if he doesn't have long enough to read the paper).
So now we've got long-suffering!maudlin!Ianto, koala!Ianto, and somethingsmellsbad!Ianto. At least JB manages the bland "this is a photo shoot" expression fairly well.
Maybe JB was directed to be the stoic heroic one while GDL needed more emoting. Silly photographers. Clearly they've never put the same consideration into characterisation that slashers have.
Yeah, Barrowman's got that Derek Zoolander expression down pat. And it's consistent with this general tendency to make it painfully obvious what Ianto feels but give absolutely no insight into what Jack feels. This might be an acting thing. I watched a little bit of "From Out of the Rain" the other day - bad idea - and man, poor GDL really makes the most of what he's got. In one of the blah blah blah bits where Jack's talking about joining the traveling show, Ianto looks at him with such naked adoration... and of course the dialogue isn't shippy at all, has nothing to do with that. And Barrowman just says his lines. :)
