Yay! Honest to God, this is the first post-Serenity fic I have ever seen that deals with the immediate aftermath of the movie (ie, Simon's owies). I love it! I've always been a fan of h/c and you deal with Simon's pain well - both his and the rest of the crew, especially Kaylee.
back before all the masks got ripped off and everything had to be wrapped in bandages instead.
That line... pure poetry. Heartwrenching.
I'm not generally into Jayne/Simon, but this was great. Simon existing in a fog after Serenity is entirely believable and...somehow beautiful in you words.
Oh wow. Oh Simon. Everyone is hurting so badly and he can't fix any of it.
Your Jayne/Simon is a thing of godlike amazingness, but I can't help the twinge I feel for Kaylee. I like her so much, and she just gets shafted. Oh well, she is in the fine company of the many thousands of women whose ONETRUECRUSHOMG turned out to be gay.
I'm going to readthis later, but its surreal seeing 'cicatrix' in a fic... espeically a slash fic! I originally got the cicatrix in my screen name from an alterna-verse buffy slash fic series YEARS ago! :D
I enjoyed this a lot, even though I don't actively read Jayne/Simon. Someone else who doesn't do a lot of J/S recced it and I took a peek since I trust her opinions. Glad I read it -- you've got a great writing style and a good, strong Simon voice/feel. I especially loved the immediately-after-the-movie take you had. I've written and read lots of post-Serenity fics but this one feels the most connected, in a sense. Everyone is hurt, and there is this fog that they're all moving through and you captured it really well.
I also think it's incredibly interesting/telling that although River and Kaylee make cameos neither Mal, Zoe nor Inara do. Anyway, I didn't expect to enjoy this and here I am with a long review, heh. Go figure, huh? :)
::turns head, whispers:: Beautiful, melancholy, they faced the truth & they lived. All that needed to be said, wounds from choices made & the lies they told themselves. Desire, taciturn & immediate, a final release. Joss, it coulda' been this way.
Enough cliched ramblin' from me, words fall to my heart. Pretend I just said 'Loved it, a LOT!'
I read this AAAAAAAAGES ago and just skulked, thought it was great and said nothing :-/
I've just read it again. And your characterisation is perfect, as usual, at the risk of sounding repetitive, and your writing is beautiful, and their post-Serenity pain ("To bury 'em there" gahhhh) is so very sad. And this whole paragraph: '“You ain’t right,” Jayne says...' is so terribly hot. Mmmhmm.
A present for me!
And the Simon/Jayne scene...*melts*
Thank you for a great fic!
*happily goes off to reread*

Oooh, I love that line. It is so crude but also shows some Jayne depth.
Hmmm. Like this too. Desentitized by Jayne. Not just his fingers. Yay fic! Thank you!
