dear friends list,

it has become apparent to me that i need to ~~be in canada RIGHT NOW KTHX~~ start seriously saving for coming over to canada/the states. the airfare alone will cost me around $3000. if i stick with my current income, will take me liek, a couple of YEARS. so from now on i'm going to attempt to pull my finger out and save every single cent that is possible for me to save.

this includes, um, metaphorically whoring myself out to the world at large. i'm going to go through my stuff and see if anything is saleable. i'm also now offering what services i have to anyone who's willing to pay a smallish fee for them. this doesn't apply to people who i already do things for, or to people in the future i offer to do things for. but anyone else reading this who is interested in the following in exchange for some kind of monetary donation, LET ME KNOW OK.
- webdesign
- photoshoppery
- icon making?
- encoding/archiving (manual labor type stuff that's involved in web publishing)
- tutoring for webdesign/photoshop/stuff.

housemates and other peeps with whom i have human contact, let me know if you want me to clean your bathrooms or mow your lawns or type/proof your essays or tutor you in the writing of media essays or something. ANYTHING. honestly. i am busy with work and uni during the week but i am willing to commit my weekends to doing whatever it takes omg.

um. i should set up a paypal or something for myself, in case anyone wants to take up the above offers. i don't want to just ask for donations because that's. kinda. weird, i think. and this is separate to the hosting tip jar thing, this is me. PAY ME TO DO STUFF. um.

I also have the woe about how fecking expensive it is to fly to Canada (specifically Toronto). 3000 bucks WTF. It only costs 1500 or so to fly to NY :| Stupid Australia, being so far from everywhere else fun.

Whoa, does it really? Because Hope, it wouldn't cost you all that much to go from NYC to Ottawa. It's a $200 AUD bus ride. Or omg I could meet you there because any excuse to go to NYC, meep...

Well, most of the cheap-ish flights i've seen recently to NYC are 1500-1800 AUD. Now, to Toronto would be usually another 500-1000 at least on top of that. I'm not sure there are many direct flights from Aus - Canada, which might explain the prices. Having looked into the getting-to-Toronto thing a lot lately, i'd pretty much come up with that plan - fly to NYC and bus over into Canada. Hey, it gets a little more travel in that way :)

that might actually sound like a plan! imma go into the student travel office place and liek, grill them for INFO. and grill my parents for how much they'd be willing to give me. and grill the uni for how much time i can take off when.

I checked 1800cheapseats.com (http://www.1800cheapseats.com/), which popped up a decent amount of flights for less than $2000 from Melbourne to NYC, so I'm sure that once you dug up the money, if you booked in advance you might find some decent prices.

Best of luck with the fund raising! Though personally, I'd probably opt for the decision to carry a cup around with me and say 'Am trying to escape Hell, give money to get me out!'

no problem. i used to travel a lot, and shopping around is usually the best way to find the cheapest flights.

i was looking up some professional rates, and a lot of them were about $60-$75 per page, so. i'd be able to afford to pay you $40 american (i think that's about $52 australian) for a really good new design template for my website. if that sounds fair to you, email/IM/comment me sometime.

Anyhow, I think you've got a very good idea, especially charging to make icons. Surely there are lots of people out there who have icon requests that nobody wants to fill for free ...
