work, though it has gone relatively quickly thus far, is boring today. so i need some entertainment. in this case, via a meme seen all over the flist, but most recently over at
stimpson's:
top fives. what's a top five list of mine you want to see? if, er, you want to see any at all.
see, that's why i don't usually do damn memes. but anyway.

2. the long basket weave scarf done with hand died yarn in autumn colours. dark reds, golds, olive green, ochres. love the pattern. got complemented on it and held up for a bit on my first visit to walmart in seattle, practically my first taste of american uber-friendliness that meant
3. your ocean green/blue cotton (& silk?) seed stitch scarf. i loved the yarn, loved the idea, loved knitting, but was a bit concerned about how wonky the edges were. the fact that you seemed to love it so much made me all warm and fuzzy. i love seeing people wear what i've made them :)
4. the big chunky garter stitch scarf i made out of the homespun my grandmother spun 20-something years ago. she'd spun it, my mum had knitted it up into a jumper, i unravelled and washed it when my mum gave it to me in a fit of glee at discovering i loved knitting. It's so very warm, and smells so very good, and kept me extremely cozy when i was in canada and new york. i got someone to take a photo of me at the foot of liberty with NY in the background for my parents, wearing the scarf, and when i gave it to mum she exclaimed over how there was a picture of her somewhere wearing a homespun scarf on her travels when she was about my age. also, the smell of it is so comforting, was great when i was homesick.
5. my jayne hat! you REALLY have to see firefly to appreciate this one. no, really. :D

(in no particular order, without the aid of anything but my memory, so apologies for misquotes...:)
1. "and you took that end! and well... you took it!" - that whole canton speech scene and the way he fights stitch.
2. pretty much everything in 'heart of gold', especially the 'lets get sexed!' and 'my pecker's about to fly off around the room here!' and sleeping cuddled up to his guns and and. ahahaha. yeah.
3. ariel. at the end, the 'what are you going to tell the others?' bit. OH JAYNE. YOU NOT MEAN, JUST A BIT SIMPLE.
4. "jayne ain't a girl! i got man parts." (and any other interaction with the three of them, including "i can kill you with my brain", and various little things like river stealing things off jayne's plate during dinner. N'AWW.
5. vera.
6. "mal, there's something with inara's shuttle. it smells funny." "..that's incense."
...i could go on.

Top five favourite places anywhere.
1. California, Pacific highway. redwood forests, pacific ocean. holy shit. humbling and exhilarating.
2. the tee tree forest behind the house i grew up in.
3. mt martha beach, on the mornington peninsula. in particular, in the cool dark of the boatshed with the grit of the sand on the salty floorboards. after the glare on the yellow sand and water outside.
4. generic hotel rooms, the same the world over.
5. the drought-stripped lake bed of the lake that was full when i grew up; still wet enough to be luscious, but an empty plain nonetheless, with incredible skeletal trees rising around the river that's left that were drowned when they built in the weir. amazing, rich colours of the violet clouded sky reflected on the deep, fast water of the river, the ochre of the scarred hillside, verdant grass, black trees.
Top five personal achievements.
1. living on my own, with a job, and friends, and girlfriend, and car, and surviving perfectly fine :D
2. conceiving, coordinating, collating, editing, publishing, marketing and selling over 250 copies of a book of slash :D
3. financial independence.
4. emotional independence from the family.
5. teaching myself webdesign to the extent that i can help others out *and* express myself creatively.
Top five LOLLIES.

1. from gotta finish the riff -
fuller: are you guys dating?
tom: O____O *nervous laugh* *changes subject*
2. from worst night of your life - doug picking up tom in his yellow cardy and pink shirt and putting him on the table, also, bitching tom out about his bowling then turning up at the bowling alley. then to work the next morning in a bowling shirt.
3. from you outta be in prison -
doug: if my partner dies, i will hunt you down and i will cut something off.
4. from higher education - tom mugging the camera when ioki's talking about them keeping tabs on him.
5. from mean streets and pastel houses - the entire scene from the from-the-feet-up revealing of tom's punk getup to him macking onto the punklings by randomly humping them to doug picking tom up like a rentboy to tom being upset that doug doesn't take his sociology report seriously. i heart that episode so!
speaking of jump street, you've seen the blooper reel, right?
