Here's the review from Jim Schembri, my arch nemesis of taste-in-films and movie reviewer for The Age, that I was bitching about on Saturday.


Serenity
1.5 stars
Totally forgettable, throwaway exercise by director Joss Whedon (Buffy creator) who appears to have stapled together two episodes of his failed sci-fi TV show Firefly. A group of space pirates get involved in one of those civilisation-saving space adventures that involve a lot of poorly delivered jokes and crummy digital effects of spaceships that look like cereal boxes.

In other news, in Friday's Australian Financial Review Magazine, the photographer used a Supersampler to take portraits of Australia's most powerful figures. Surprisingly enough, seeing all those weasley, power-bloated men via a lomographic lens has served to make me want to use my supersampler again, instead of being utterly scared off.


Does anyone have Australian box office figures for this weekend? I don't know where to look.

ETA: Ouch. but i don't get it. It came #2 but is still flopping??

UIP are going to put up the figures tomorrow on SOZ, cos today's a public holiday. (Well, it's not here. But somewhere it must be.)


Also, clearly this reviewer guy has a butt for a face. From what i've heard of him over LJ and the forums, he doesn't like ANYTHING. Like, ANYTHING. Not just Serenity. Bloody hell.

I think the Serenity Oz board said they would post weekend figures on tuesday. The US ones are already out, and not fabulous, but everyone is trying for second week I think.

Er, not fabulous? This place says it's at #2 with a thousand fewer theaters showing it than the #1; so do the others I've seen on a quick Google search. That's not too shabby.

if you see the eta link in my post, it lists it as #2 too, but calls it a flop nonetheless? i'm not entirely sure how all that works either.

People magazine over here gave Serenity a 1.5 stars out of 4 and then they'll give some martha stewart reality show like 3 stars. seriously, what the fuck is up with reviewers?

i know, what is wrong with the WORLD where a show like Firefly can get cancelled and yet 'Wife Swap' is still on air.

agreed WTF. I loved it. LOVED IT OMG. Though at parts, I did want to crawl into a hole and cry for the rest of my life.
