It is my birthday in 1 month. I would like to write some mathoms for the occassion.
... and it just struck me that several years out of the LOTR fandom, people might not be familiar with that term. Basically, Hobbits have a custom where instead of receiving presents on their birthday, they give presents. These presents-given-from-the-birthday-hobbit are called "mathoms". Every year I try and scrape together some fandom mathoms for my birthday - fics, icons, etc. (might even try vids this time!), with varying success.
So, will attempt some mathoms this year. It's quite a strong possibility (if not a guarantee) that they will be Firefly-centric this year, but as you might know, I'm rather fond of crossovers too.
If you have any requests or suggestions, now's the time, though I'm not making any promises - I will write things if the inspiration hits, which you may be able to aid me with :)

i must say that calling these gifts of fic mathoms is a fanon creation.
Tolkien used the word to mean "white elephant." it's us who decided to make it mean the same thing as "gift;" that's actually not in canon. but gifts are always a lovely thing.
Hey, I saw Serenity so now I can grok your fic.

that's weird! i always read mathom as gift, even before i got into fandom. coincidentally, most of the time the gifts also happened to be white elephants, but the fact that they were given on birthdays (and also, bilbo having hundreds of them specially made for his party) always made me see it more of a gift thing than a white elephant thing :)
