In the interests of my in-progress Dean-has-lots-of-lesbian-sex story:

[Poll #742963]

Personally, I use 'cunt' like I use 'cock' in stories, don't find it particularly offensive, and am more comfortable using 'cunt' to 'pussy' as I'm more comfortable using 'cock' to 'dick'.

Though when I'm reading I'm not bothered by the variations (though I am amused when they're so evasive, like "his entrance" or "his rigid heat"). But I know some people find 'cunt' offensive.

Is 'cunt' used by a woman writing a female/female sex scene that other women will read still offensive?

You decide. *points to poll*

I find pussy in whatever context to just be a dumb word. I can probably blame Pussy Galore for that. Cunt doesn't bother me unless it's used by a man to humilate a woman. It's just a word--it's all about the useage and intent.

i'm like you, cunt and cock first, pussy and dick second. I use all four, and none offend me in the context of well written porn. :-)

Go cunt!

I tend to write a tight-POV, so I use what feels right for the character. When I'm writing guys, it tends to be cunt. When I'm writing women, it tends to be pussy or some other "nicer" term, because of those charcters.

In f/f, cunt wouldn't bother me at all. Context is everything.

I fought to keep "cunt" in my last story when it was published, because i feel like pussy is porn-gross.

Well, personally I love the word cunt, so *shrug* I've always thought it was more about what the *character* would think about/use than anything else, and personally I can't picture Dean being squeamish around the word cunt.

I agree with most of the above, in that it's all about how the word (or any word for that matter) is used. And while I have no particular project of re-appropriating the term for the purpose of empowerment, I do think that censoring it only invests it with more power. This however, can work in both a negative and positive light, in that it's has either a more derisive or more subversive power depending on who's weilding it and how.

Personally speaking, my jury's stil out on what I prefer to refer to female genitalia as. Pussy can be ok, but it's pretty dorky, and cunt can be ok, but it's not pleasant to my ear and I don't identify with it.

One thing I do have very particular opinions about is the habitually incorrect use of the term vagina into refer to a vulva. I think it has the castrating effect of eliding the material reality of a woman's external genitalia.

Something which used to fascinate me is the various terms people use with their children to refer to their bits. I had a school friend who's mum always talked about 'front bottoms' and 'back bottoms'. And a friend of a friend had a little kid (about 4 at the time) who was really interested in her 'yoni'. My mum, ok, embarassing now, would always refer in the first person to 'fanny vagina' ("have you washed fanny vagina today? She doesn't like soap remember..." etc).

p.s. Obviously a fanny is a not a bum in Australia, at least notwhere I come from anyhow.

I think, as a lot of other people have pointed out also, it's all about context. If it's not used as an insult, then have at it :-D
