Oh, man, I was laughing my head off at the "stop hitting the wall, damnit..." bits and at “Pond,” Sam amends. “Garden feature. Thing.”, and then I was all: "n'awww! Dean" at “It did,” Dean says, continues to refuse to meet Sam’s eyes. “When you were five.”

I'm deeply impressed by the way you turned this from giggle-out-loud funny to the seriousness of:

“Sam,” Dean says. “We’re brothers. Already next of kin.”

“I know, but,” Sam says, hesitates. “You know it can’t always be like that, Dean. Not all the time.”

Can’t always be Winchesters, and if that doesn’t sting more’n anything then Dean doesn’t know what does. Twenty-two years of figuring his own way and Dad never slipped them up enough to cause any permanent damage; Dean’s only got Sammy to take care of – a grown-up Sammy, at that – and he’s managed to screw them royally in a matter of months.

And the bit about Sam letting Dean have his one-up, and then at the end? Sam's only speechless for a moment. Hee! That's our boys!

Dean grumbles wordlessly, but doesn’t draw away. “Too bad we can’t remember anything,” he says. “I bet you cried like a baby. Wishing your daddy was still around to give you away.”

Yeah, because Sammy's the daddy's kid in that family. Right.

Sam was probably the one wishing Jess was there to be his best man. Maid of honour. Something.

I think I would have cried like a baby. :)

...and I completely giggled the entire way through reading this. At work. Thank god none of my coworkers were around. ;)

“It’s under the covers, Dean,” Sam says matter-of-factly, and Dean just knows he’s not going to budge. “You can’t see it. Just pretend it isn’t happening.”
ROTFL!! That has got to be the most perfectly Winchester-like line of dialogue ever written in SPN fic! This story is for the win. Absolutely brilliant. :D

Bitch. I'm laughing at that crack of it all and then i got this wet thing in my eye.

and this A kitten with bed hair. is so Sammy.

I loved this. Just the right amount of humour and angst...

[identity profile] madame-d.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hysterically funny and warmly, lovingly fuzzy, and sweetly touching. And of course Dean kept the ring Sammy gave him when he was five *melty*

"An annulment?" Dean says before he can stop himself, more than a little wounded and automatically cramming back down the jack-in-the-box reasons for that. "Oh that's great. That's just typical."

*draws hearts*

[identity profile] kitaloon.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Wah! It kind of reminds me of reading a Pratchett book, in that there's laughs! gags! humour! and then suddenly something important happens (but oh, Dean knows this game. ) and you go... wah?

A little gen. *grins*

[identity profile] unperfectwolf.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, boys. How do you manage to get into these situations?

[identity profile] lilacsigil.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wheeeee! The best kind of crack, because it's the kind of crack you can peer through to see something hidden and secret about Dean and Sam. Of course Dean would keep the cereal box ring! Of course Sam would want an annulment (for five minutes).

[identity profile] graceandfire.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
That was awesome dialogue and a hilarious and somehow poignant scene. The pounding on the walls, and Dean being hurt that Sam doesn't remember the ring and Sam's 'this might be a good thing' reaction and just...of the good :)

[identity profile] destina.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
This was completely awesome. *g* First there's mystery, and then there's funny, and then it gets all touching. Tricky, that. I loved it. Thank you. :)

[identity profile] queen-geek.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
ahahaha. i didn't know this was crack, going into it, and halfway through, i realized, and just about laughed my face off at my own stupidity. but really, things like Sam says, standing again and brandishing his left fist. Dean’s silver ring gleams dully on his ring finger are so much wish-fulfillment that it was less like crack and more like christmas. yanno?

to sum up: i love this like pie.

[identity profile] swear-jar.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
This is a hilarious, cute, cracktastic thing of beauty. PLASTIC RING FROM CEREAL BOX. Gold. I'm actually "engaged" to one of my friends with a ring just like that. Except it has Santa on it and was from a x-mas cracker. Hee.

:D This is one of those things that seems like crack at the beginning, but is so full of pathos that it's really more like humor with substance.

Dean's knee-jerk feelings of rejection at Sam's anulment suggestion and whatnot don't have to be Wincest (not that I mind that!), but just more of Dean feeling rejected and easy-to-leave in general.

This part captured that perfectly:
“You were a selfish little son of a bitch,” he says. “I took what I could get, okay?”
You know, it's funny, but it's also true in an "ouch" sort of way, and there's such bittersweet sadness to it. Even if it's meant to be cracky, there's truth underneath it.

,i>“It’s under the covers, Dean,” Sam says matter-of-factly, and Dean just knows he’s not going to budge. “You can’t see it. Just pretend it isn’t happening.”
Dean grumbles wordlessly, but doesn’t draw away.
Because he takes the message under the message, and if he did that on the series he would be a hell of a lot happier much of the time. Take what you can get, and keep the message regardless of the "style" in which it was communicated.

And then there were things like the pool getting steadily demoted to
“Pond,” Sam amends. “Garden feature. Thing.”
that just cracked me up. The progression of grossness and lameness is funny all by itself.

So much genius in this, both the humor and the emotion. :)

I'm laughing away, and then you go and sneak in the pain. Lovely!

“Sam,” Dean says. “We’re brothers. Already next of kin.”

“I know, but,” Sam says, hesitates. “You know it can’t always be like that, Dean. Not all the time.”

*whimpers*

[identity profile] luzdeestrellas.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, I love this. It starts out as funny, and then ends up as something more. And there's so much love between them, and that comes through, too.

[identity profile] kat-lair.livejournal.com 2007-01-31 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
this is the best thing since cheese! or something. oh please, please, pleeeeeeeeeease tell me there's slightly less gen sequel? And then a pre-slashy one? And then finally one where the power of attorney has to be envoked and there could be angst by happy wincesty endings? *begs shamelessly*
