This was wonderful. Mister Bun makes all stories better.

Thank you.

"Happy birthday, Sammy," he says, then bobs again; kisses Sammy's fist where it's wound around Mister Bun. "Happy birthday, Mister Bun."

This, right here, made me get all teary. *sniff* I love that you showed us John with a baby strapped to him AND the introduction of Mister Bun AND sweeltly exhuberant Dean. The whole thing is wonderful.

After reading this, I'll be instantly recognizable at Asylum. That wee puddle of goo in the corner? That'll be me.

I adore this John. This is the guy that raised our boys. The image of John with Baby Sammy strapped to his chest is heartclenching in the extreme.

And Mister Bun. And hopping Dean. *sighs in gooey contentment*

I loved this story. It's great to see the introduction of Mister Bun and John's reflections at the end felt real.

Oh honey! Mister Bun!! So sweet and sad. I love John's issues with gravity and Dean's hopping and picking a gift for Sammy. But this is the part that killed me.

Six months.

Tomorrow, and the part of Sammy's life spent with Mary will be outweighed by the part without. Poor reason for celebration, but one he's going to keep on honouring anyhow. For the boys, if not for himself.

*sniff* Forget the comics...I'm sticking with fanfic!

Wow... this is lovely and hurty and...

Tomorrow, and the part of Sammy's life spent with Mary will be outweighed by the part without.

Just ow ow ow!

Tomorrow, and the part of Sammy's life spent with Mary will be outweighed by the part without.

Oh. that's such a low hit. But..Mr. BUN! And I can imagine John with Sam strapped to his chest, and I just love it. Thank you, this series is great.

Your ickle Winchesters are so *convincing*. Most of all I love the image of John and Dean holding the rabbit together and lowering it to Sam.

That last paragraph though. Yow.

I really liked this. :)

Lovely. I can't doubt this is John--the John I believe in.

I'm making sounds of delight tha I can't begin to spell using the keyboard. And that last part...OW.

Sam, true to form, grips it immediately and shoves it into his mouth, head-first.

Honestly, this was my favorite part. Mainly because of this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/burning_ice/beckysbaby/Picture063b.jpg) (and yes, she's chewing on the Grinch). That's my niece at Christmas, she's ALWAYS sticking things in her mouth. She's seven months old now.

I absolutely love this whole thing, though. John strapping Sam to his chest and Dean being all "OMGTOYS" and tackling the huge tiger and Mister Bun and just... Gah, I loved it.

What a sweetly sad story! This is a relatively happy moment from that time in their lives, and yet it's still so heartbreaking; how could it not be? Judging from others' comments, you broke a lot of hearts, including mine, with this line: Tomorrow, and the part of Sammy's life spent with Mary will be outweighed by the part without. I would've never thought of it exactly like that, but it's so true -- John would always have a very clear marker of Sam's life with Mary, and Sam's life without, and every birthday would be a reminder.

Beautiful story! :o)

Protective John kills me, in a good way. And of course John would think of Sam's birthday in that context. :( Poor john.

Thanks for sharing.

Man, I could just picture it in my head. And Mr Bun. And then the last line. Ouch. So well done.

The mess of toys is like a plushie mass grave,>

This phrase is beyond perfection, especially from John POV. And Dean tackling the stuffed tiger is just the best image.

Cute story, love the imagery!

[identity profile] superdork37.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! Holy shit, I loved this so much! It was the perfect balance of love and cuteness with undertones of the angst that they can't escape. So, so sweet!

[identity profile] iamstealthyone.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, John carrying Sam around in a sling is too cute. I used slings on both of my girls, so that brings back fond memories. *g* And I love Sam gnawing on the bunny. *squishes Sam*

I think my favorite part was this:

"You wanna give it to him?"

"We both can," Dean says, and Dean holds the toy rabbit out to John for long moments before John realises what Dean wants. John gently holds the tail of the rabbit while Dean holds the ears; they both carefully lower it into Sammy's grasping hands together.

*squishes them all*

Nicely done.

I liked this. It was sweet and adorable; then the last paragraph...ouch.

I just discovered this series, and I LOVE it - love caring daddy John, love little baby Sammy flopping around, and love love love big brother Dean. This is a great look at how Mister Bun came to be - thanks for sharing!
