It's a three act story with a tragic end.
Whenever I think about Wincest I get this delighted shiver of glee at the potential of how self-contained and fucked up it could get. Yes, sure, it's all about "our family is fucked up, this is no more fucked up, fucked up is normal for us and this is who we are *buttsex*", and that's all fine, but it's still rationalisation. Rationalisation that is extremely rational and fine when it's just the two of them against the world, yes, but as Sam is fond of saying in the early episodes, We gotta find Dad! And I'm not quite sure Papa Winchester would be quite as pleased as punch with all the fraternal buggery going on as the boys are.
Which leads to my delighted shiver of glee because of course the rational follow-on from that kind of "there's only us in the world, therefore as long as we have eachother there's nothing left to lose, etc" is a play out of that rather striking (so to speak) Heavenly Creatures narrative, and oh, they'd really have nothing left to lose after that, would they?
In other news,

My manips are getting more and more seamless! I'm thinking of giving up this whole career thing and working on my art full time.
Also, I made a bunch more icons. The keywords for this one are 'winnie blues'.

I have media theory-esque theories on it; about the progression from buddy partners to male-female partners into brother partners, which have all the physical and emotional intimacy of the het partners, but the comeraderie and equality of the male buddy pair. in other words, they are GAY, only re-couped by the hegemony by being labelled 'family'. I read them as partners.

And yeah, Wincest. They're one of the relatively few incestuous pairings in fandom for which I think the characters are fucked up enough that it might happen. I can almost see Sam writing a letter to Dan Savage's advice column saying something like "My brother and I are regularly having sex. This just happened, I don't know why. As he says, we're both young and attractive, and our lives are scarsely normal anyway, and we're both here, so why not? My question is, what specific laws are we breaking, and can it affect college entry?" [Excuses and rationalisations taken from actual letters to Savage Love.]
And Dan replies something like "It 'just happened?' What, did you trip over and fall onto each other's dicks?" and goes on to tell Sam (whose pseudonym is a long and clever one acronym-ing down to POLTERGEIST) that no, there isn't a law against adult brothers fucking, UNFORTUNATELY, and that yes, if his college finds out, he's screwed, but he should be used to that, right? And a bunch of readers write in to tell Dan he was too hard on POLTERGEIST.
