My favorite of my own stories this year:
I am still immensely fond of Widdershins, it was a lot of long, hard work and thinking and was wonderfully satisfying to have it work. I'm also fond of the Tiber 'verse; Field of Mars was pretty hard work too, getting to know John, and then having it *click* and loving it.
My best story this year:
I have to say Widdershins again. It actually had a mystery plot, with a whole lot of research and re-writing going into it. Although it wasn't the most popular from this year, it did pretty damn well and got good, quality feedback. I'm very proud of the way it turned out.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I am really, really fond of Negative Space. I have half-baked notions that people tend to avoid Lacuna because it's Dean/Cassie, but it really is awesome (and Negative Space isn't even really *about* Cassie anyway, it's about John being an ass). I'm still kind of reeling from how Negative Space was written, just pouring out in one five-hour session, with a fully formed mythology. I kind of still want to point people to it and go, "look! look what I did!" *g*
Most fun story:
*snortgiggle* er, the yak stories? They were pretty damn fun, but I do have to say that as crazy-fun as they were, I still get the most joy from the In Memoriam collection, which is MADE for fluffy domestic fun. My favourite kind.
Most sexy story:
o_O Still don't know how to answer this question, the same holds from last year's meme. I'm not very good at sex scenes, any enjoyment of 'sexiness' for me in my own writing is kind of beaten out of it by anxiety etc. That said, I did actually start writing NC-17 porn this year. It's hard to tell how successful they are from feedback, because they're all Johncest andI like to tell myself that people seem reluctant to either read or leave feedback on Johncest, so ... I'm not sure.
That said, El Camino Real (The King's Highway) got a fair bit of positive feedback in terms of... porniness. I think I can default to that one anyway, as the very premise of it is a sexing curse. Heee.
Story with single sexiest moment:
I think I'll have to go with last year's response to this question and say "see above" again.
Hardest story to write:
I just posted the holidays challenge fic today, so it doesn't count, right? Other than that... Field of Mars required a lot of negotiating and wrangling and deep thought. El Camino Real (The King's Highway) was difficult because I'd never really done such gratuitous pervy porn before. I needed to drum up some nerve before I *posted* it, anyway.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic:
God, what? I don't even know how to answer this one. Supernatural is just a cracked-out fandom. Should I list the yak stories? The genderswap? The aforementioned incestuous non-con bondage threesome?
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Field of Mars got me intrigued in John, Widdershins got me to learn him inside-out. It was around that time that I was really getting into writing my thesis, and it was changing the way I thought about things, how my brain worked, and I think quite influenced how I kind of... evaluated and explored his character. Definitely shifted my perceptions around, 360.
All things bright and beautiful turned into a character study of the Winchesters that I'm quite proud of, in retrospect. It kind of opens my eyes to details of characters as I re-read it, funnily enough.
Biggest disappointment:
That folks weren't as interested in Johnslash as I was. In terms of ... I don't know, feedbacking my Johnslash stories, or writing more of their own!
Biggest surprise:
little rattle stilt. I'm still reeling from the sheer volume of the response it's got. It was just a kid of gratuitous, emo-button-pusher for me (in terms of how much work I put into writing different kinds of stories, and how I kind of hope that the feedback I get reflects the effort I put in... Which, honestly, is never an equal balance, so why do I even bother?).
Most telling story:
*snerk* The D Word, probably. But femslash is always kind of awkward for the author, that way (well, if the author's female, I guess). Writing femslash as a queer woman is what I would define as 'telling'. But I guess writing out kinks like incestuous non-con bondage threesomes is pretty telling, too. ;D
What's next?
- John/Dean bodyswap that I've been talking about for far too long
- John genderswap that has very recently taken over my brain
- More 'Three ways the Winchester never [crack premise]' stories
- More In Memoriam
- Sequel to the Tiber 'verse stories
- Some left over mathoms I haven't finished with yet
- More in my OT3 'verse
- co-writing with
