Exactly the kind of crack police work I’d expect.
EDIT June 5, 2006:
I've now set up a website to better organise the information originally in this post:

On the Dean (http://supernatural.oscillating.net/chxspecs.htm#dean) page it says that Jensen Ackles is 26 -- he's actually 28. Also, you might want to note on that page that while his police record says Dean is 6'4", he's actually 6'1" (Sam/Jared is the one who's 6'4"). You know this is a mistake because Sam's record says 6'4" as well, and we all know that Dean is shorter than him. :)
One last thing: on the timeline (http://supernatural.oscillating.net/timeline.htm) for October 31, 2005, it says Dean and Sam hadn't seen each other for two years. While this is technically canon, at Supernatural's panel at the Paley Festival, Kripke admitted that the "2 years" line was a mistake. They had originally made Sam younger, only in his second year at college instead of his fourth. When they changed that, they forgot to change that line. The original idea was that Sam and Dean hadn't spoken since Sam left for Stanford. Here are a bunch of fan reports from the Paley Festival (http://maygra.livejournal.com/191474.html) -- confirmation of this is in there somewhere. :)
Hope this is helpful, and keep up the fantastic work on the site!!

The 26 is meant to apply to Dean, not Jensen... aka, Jensen Ackles plays 26-year-old Dean, Ridge Canipe plays 10-year-old Dean, etc.
Re: the police record, yea, I think anyone watching the show will realise that it's not necessarily 'accurate' (same was Sam's driver's licence says "Sex: F"!); but yaknow, the site is to report the 'canon' that appears in the show... that section reports what the police record said, not what we think it *should* say.
Regardless what Kripke says about messing up his timelines, yeah - what's aired in the show is canon, and that's how I'm reporting it (esp. as Dean gives the timeline as 2 years twice - in the Pilot and in Hookman). I know it's a contentious point, though, I might make a page for discrepancies in canon or something like that.
But thanks again!

*facepalm* Duh! Well, in that case, wouldn't Dean now be 27, since it's a year after the Pilot?
As for the other stuff, canon is canon, of course, but I thought maybe a note or an asterisk could be put in there just to be exhaustive. *g* A discrepencies page is a great idea.
Heh, sorry to bother you with all this though. Great work!

One of the really tricky (and really fascinating!) things about this site that i didn't anticipate is the blurring of definitions between canon and speculation, meta and simple documentation... it's been really hard drawing the line, because if I don't specify boundaries... well, the site will blow out of control and take over the internet :D
So part of me is thinking that a discrepencies page will slip over into meta territory, with the potential to get huge (like a pop culture references page!), but on the other hand, i'm recognising (as you're saying!) that it's relevant to address these issues as part of the possible unreliability of the canon...
at any rate, it's all very exciting.
no need to apologise! i obviously love all of this stuff, and heck, it's on a website for fans such as yourself to get the most out of it as possible, so of course i want to hear what you're thinking :)

Actually in Hookman he says "So this is how you spent four years of your life?"

ah, that's right. see, i'm thinking of those two circumstances and linking them together because that fits the MAGICAL CANON in my head where sam spent 4 years at college, but still had contact with Dean 2 years in. ah hah. it all makes sense now :D

Ah, but don't you see? If Dean acknowledges that Sam was at college for four years (Like he did in Hookman) and also acknowledges that he hasn't heard from Sammy in two years (Like in the Pilot) then that fits your MAGICAL CANON perfectly.
I know, because I also share this MAGICAL CANON with you.
And? It just occured to me that Dean arrives in the pilot calling him Sammy and he seems genuinely surprised to be told "It's Sam." Factoring in the TRUTH that two years ago he talked to Sammy I think it's safe to conclude that Sammy became Sam right about the time they stopped speaking, six months (There it is again!) before starting to date Jess.

YES YES AND YES.
I love the fact that it's only after Sam's stopped contact with Dean that he gets into a serious relationship.
HMM I WONDER WHY.

I'm hungry now. And I think I'm honestly about to go melt butter and dip bread in it and it's your fault.
I love the fact that it's only after Sam's stopped contact with Dean that he gets into a serious relationship.
HMM I WONDER WHY.
Because Sammy loved talking to his brother until one or both of them fell asleep, borrowing his friend's cell phones when his battery died and usually spending the better part of four hours just sitting on the phone listening to Dean drive.
And then one day one of his friends, a chick, mentions that she thinks it's sweet that he's still with his boyfriend (Cause she's totally heard him call the phone Dean on a few occasions) even though he's away at college. That makes Sammy freak a little and prompts this huge Change.
