JDM has several tats, one of which we can indeed see part of on John with no cover-up.

The tattoo can be seen in some other roles of JDM's such as here (http://www.jdmorgan.net/gallery/data/media/53/vip08.jpg), in which it appears the tattoo could possibly be of an angel of some sort.

When you consider that another one of JDM's tat's is a Celtic Cross (http://www.jdmorgan.net/gallery/details.php?image_id=1342) it's fairly easy to assume the angel guess is at least not far off the mark.
