cool! imdb now have a function that lets you make your saved list of movies public. eta: it appears that it's 'public' to all 'registered users' - you might as well just go ahead and register, only good will come of it ;D

or, maybe i should start from the start: imdb allows you to create an account with them and bookmark any entry (for a movie/show, not a person) you like, automatically creating a linked list of them for you. you can categorise the movies too. they call the feature 'my movies'.

anyway, as i'm obsessed with recording/organising things, i use this service to record all the movies i watch. i also use it to keep track of how many movies i'm seeing. in 2004 i saw over 90; i resolved to see at least 100 in 2005. well, now that you can make your categories public, here's the list of all the movies and complete tv series seasons i saw in 2005. 128 of them. i should note - these aren't new movies, these are just movies i'd never seen before 2005.

my progress boomed along in the first half of the year, then i fell in love with tv-on-dvd and spent many, many hours watching television when i could have been watching films :D

anyway, it's a really cool function, i like it lots.

now to have a poke at this del.icio.us that everyone's talking about.

Alright, I’m about to email my parents and ask them to get me:

Veronica Mars
Wonderfalls
Dead Like Me
In the Cut (it’s ridiculously expensive here)

a couple of other things: should i ask them to get me Battlestar Galactica? (and is that link to the one I should be looking for? is it even available on dvd yet?)

and is the second season of Deadwood available on DVD yet? is Rome?

and, any other suggestions while i’m at it?

the other day claire and i ran an errand at someone's house where we discovered a GIANT WALL OF DVDs. all of them GOOD. so i have a new life goal: end up with a killer dvd collection.

so today i went and did some reckless spending and bought firefly, barton fink and from dusk til dawn and also calamity jane for [livejournal.com profile] claireweasley. there were SO MANY good, cheap dvds there, it was a struggle to not go and spend 100s of dollars in expanding my collection more rapidly. *DROOL*.

meanwhile, last night i watched closer again (oh how i love that movie, must buy it when it is available ex-rental or something), and at the moment claire and [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary are watching hide and seek. which i'm not, because i don't particularly like scary movies. which is a shame. because i *appreciate* them a lot, just don't enjoy watching them.

anyway. movies, yaye!

random linkage of david lynch tings for the girl who lay awake half the night talking about betty:

Lynch's two worlds - a not-that-great essay looking at a lot of his films, written in 2003.

untitled lotrips in the style of lynch - random mindfuckery which had some genders changed and submitted for a creative writing folio, har.

discussion with [livejournal.com profile] almostnever on lynch's themes etc, which i drew on quite a bit for

my informal tute presentation paper on subjectivity in lost hwy/mulholland dr )

i'm finding that i have kind of a soft spot for the brave. i mean, the film itself is full of flaws, but as a johnny fan? i can't help but go n'awww. because seriously, it's so revealing.Read more... )

i am developing a fascination with this certain movie/fiction plot that i've seen appear in a few films of late. it's weird. not particularly a filmic theme, or should i say: not my usual theme that i love in films (ie. the recycling/self-referential postmodern theme). this one is more philosophical/existentialist one. ANYWAY.

three films: dead man, man on fire, the bourne identity. what do these three have in common? at some point relatively early in the film, the protagonist dies. the rest of the film is about what happens to them after that. Read more... )

anyway, it's late, i'm tired, i've been watching too many movies and can't be very coherent. just thinking aloud.

anyone have any other films they think fit the same pattern that they can recommend me?
