Fanfic meme!

What is your alias?

Hope.

How did you choose it?

It spawned from Lord of the Rings, wherein each character has like, a million names. Sam Gamgee was also known by the elves as harthad uluithiad (hope unquenchable) and Frodo Baggins as bronwe athan harthad (endurance beyond hope). One of Aragorn's names is Estel, which also translates to 'hope'. Its a theme that affects me profoundly in all the texts I love. I have 'Hope' tattooed in elvish on my forearm.

[livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope comes from my early days in fandom, wherein I was fond of the angsty, slashy stories, and was also fond of being clever (the balance of angst/hope). *is lame*

My fic journal, [livejournal.com profile] hopeful_fiction, is pretty self-explanatory with the alias and all.

What fandoms do you write for currently?

Supernatural, though I've been known to do the odd crossover... Like [livejournal.com profile] maygra, I am a serial monogamist when it comes to fandoms (something which I am TAUNTED ABOUT incessantly by [livejournal.com profile] vissy and [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary).

What fandoms have you written for in the past?

In chronological order: Lord of the Rings, Lotrips, The Faculty, 21 Jump Street, Firefly/Serenity. And, as mentioned above, a variety of crossovers (Endless, HP, Star Wars, Deadwood, PotC, Twin Peaks, Try 17, Gattaca, From Dusk Til Dawn, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, etc...)

What fics are you currently working on?

I was working on a sequel to Stroke of Luck, but it never got going before I shifted fandoms.

Currently in Supernatural I am incubating (as this is how I write - incubate for a while, then write it all in a rush):
- genderfuck in which Dean is a big dyke who has lots of lesbian sex
- sequel to On the banks of the Tiber, in the form of John's journal entries, several years down the track
- another crackfic scenario - married in Vegas!!!1 LOLZ
- an Orpheus and Eurydice allegory-type story, possibly set around Stanford times, possibly Wincest (possibly not)

What is your deepest darkest fic-writing secret?

Uhhh... I am terrible at sex scenes? though that's not really a secret, as I complain about it a lot. I'm terrified of getting them wrong, which is ridiculous on multiple levels, I know, but I have serious performance anxiety when it comes to writing m/m (not so much with f/f, as we'll quite possibly see once I've written Dean As A Big Fat Dyke (working title)).

Do you have any quirks/habits in your writing?

Hrum, sure, plenty - isn't that what defines my particular style from other people's particular style?
- I tend to be heavy on the visceral/sensory descriptive imagery
- I always end up with a shameful amount of run-on sentences, which inevitably includes:
- far, too, many, commas; and even semicolons;
- I always try to be tricky make the most of the cinematic aspect to fanfiction and fandom and drop in intertextuality wherever I feel like it, heh. Originality is not the aim of the game here, folks.

Also, as Mary pointed out, there are particular 'places' I return to again and again in stories cross-fandom.

Do you have an OTP?

I have particular pairings or configuration in each fandom that I prefer to read, sure, but I don't have OTPs in the sense that I'm anti- any pairing that isn't my favourite. I'll often read/write configurations of favourite characters with others.

If you could get someone to write a fic for you right now, who would it be?

[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster to write more Heart 'verse, [livejournal.com profile] maygra to write more Out of this Darkness, [livejournal.com profile] esorlehcar to write more Down to the End.

Also, on The Lawrence Awards stuff - Now that all the noms are up, I see that On the banks of the Tiber was nominated for Best (Slash) AU and Best Horror! Thank you!

Thanks also to whomever nominated my vids, Sweetest Perfection and Maker Makes (the latter which I'm a bit boggled by!) for Best Overall Vid.

I am totally blown away by it all. Thank you :)

... Best idea ever.

Anyway, I'm dieing to watch some SPN vids, but I haven't downloaded anything due to spoilerphobia, so can I ask up to what ep the footage in your "Maker Makes" vid uses? I love the song and I so want to download it, but I've only seen up to the last ep they showed on TV ("Provenance" is on tonight, I think). Lalala, I am difficult!

Whee! Thanks. 24 meg is pushing my dial up enforced download limit, but I can still get it. I prefer saving things to watching online.

I have missed fan vids in this fandom. I hate being behind America/the internets.
