Dean and Sam are trying to find Bela by taking stock of all their reference books (dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, grimoires) and driving all over the country. They drive to a lot of different towns for a long time, not stopping, and Dean talks to himself and keeps getting distracted by his reflection while Sam dozes in the passenger seat.

Eventually Dean notices this diner that's still open (it's very late at night), and realises he's hungry. He stops the car and Sam wakes up. While Dean's looking out the window and pondering on whether to go in or not, Sam gracefully vaults himself out of the car's skylight, crouches on the roof of the car briefly, then lands lightly on the pavement in his puma sneakers without Dean even noticing.

Sam goes into the diner. He's hungry, he sits down. There are a few other people around, still eating, but he's not sure if they're still serving, though he can see waitresses around and a chef in the kitchen. He tries to ask a waitress, an older woman, but she goes into this big spiel about people she's served in the past (eg. "there was a young boy, he was very sick. I dug out and brought him a soup, pale pink. It was fish." etc). While she's talking, the chef brings out a bowl of soup (no, not light pink; chunky vegetable) and Sam ravenously digs in. The chef glances outside and sees the car. The chef and the waitress are still watching Sam. The waitress seems to expect something of him. She wants Sam to touch her face.

I'm watching this episode, and it suddenly goes into flashback. I'm very pleased by this. John is in the diner, towards the back of it, crouching on the floor to speak to his young sons face-on. The chef and the waitress at the diner are his parents, Dean & Sam's grandparents. John convinces the boys of this by getting them to run their hands over his face (prickly beard close-up) and feel the similarities in the bone structure.

Flashback a little earlier: John is on the run from the law, needs a place where the boys will be safe. His parents' diner is a last resort. The boys switch cars a few times, Bobby is helping them. When John turns up with the boys and the diner, the grills are locked, so he bangs on them til his father comes out, sees them, lets them in.

There's urgency because John is about to shed his skin, reptile-like. He's writhing around on the floor while Sam and Dean's grandmother shelters them, and they watch on. For a moment John has nine reptilian faces, then the tough snake skin comes off. Sam's worried about what's beneath, if John will have more skin to protect him from the world outside hurting.

I think this is the BEST EPISODE EVER and am very disappointed when I realise it's a dream during my wake-up limbo.

I also had a dream where I was asked at the last minute to drum for this band in their first show. I'd never even heard their music before, but I did pretty damn good. Then the manager wanted this old boy friend of his to do it instead, and I was outraged.

For serious this time

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] dea_liberty has done an audio recording of my first Mister Bun story: All things bright and beautiful (yep, that one told from the toy rabbit's POV). I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE READ MY STORIES! Dea has the perfect accent, inflection and pitch for it; it really suits the story's nursery tale beginnings.

You can listen to it here.

I'll repost my favourite piece here, which happens to be the last one I wrote.

Just poking around Google Analytics. Here are my favourite search terms for the Super-wiki:

  • evil jared hasselhoff crib watch
  • dean winchester myspace layout shoots demon
  • gay dragon supernatural
  • journal entries about senses
  • macho showdown i have a plan
  • mary winchester why she die
  • sam paddleboat thy love which is forbidden
  • super sex
  • x-files, mulder, puppet, kids tv show
  • yak fucking

It helps if you read each one as a cohesive narrative. Especially "sam paddleboat thy love which is forbidden".

ETA: no, seriously, sam paddleboat thy love which is forbidden. WHY did this person end up at the Super-wiki???

Okay, so those of you downloading SPN 3.01 for free right now are going to upload it for us poor unfortunates who AREN'T in north america when you're done, right? RIGHT?*

Also, I totally wasn't even spoiled for the episode title until 5 minutes ago. I count that as a win! (question is, do I need to leave my flist for the next 32 hours to keep that track record?)

Um, if someone DOES upload it for us poor bastards who don't have the iTunes, can you drop me a comment? Or email?

* I'm at work and thus can't even try to download, but am assuming that it's the same deal as with the iTunes store anyway - you need a US credit card to even just get access. If that isn't the case, FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME THE GOOD NEWS.

Eta: comments screened.

Okay, so not that long ago [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c made a comment about wanting more Sam/professors-at-Stanford fic. That reminded me that [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown had gotten up to some hijinks of this flavour some time ago, mainly just scribbling random bits to each other in AIM.

Anywayz, looks like we're never going to make anything of it, but fact is, what we did write of it still exists, so Dei? This is totally for you. With the warning that the dust has SO not even been brushed off this since it was written more than a year ago, and it's totally just Derry & I doing what we seem to do best together - fucking around with daddy issues.

Sam/OMC. Rated maybe about R? Warning: vast oversimplification of Freud and abuse of academia.

So, I have been thinking pretty much non-stop about [livejournal.com profile] astolat's SPN/HP crossover, Old Country.

It seems pretty clear to me that Dean's patronus in this 'verse would be a unicorn. What do you reckon Sam's patronus would be? I'm thinking it's probably something like a Balrog.
