I've had this link saved in my favourites for a while now (ever since it was posted at the Supernatural_TV community, I think...) and stumbled across it again tonight, finally getting around to reading it.

Can I just say thank you for doing all that?! I used to try and read the journal at the site but my eyes suck as it is and would cop out pretty quickly so I eventually just gave up. But that was such an interesting read, and I suddenly have a whole new sense of sympathy for John (whom I previously ... well I wasn't a big fan, let's just say that). And that entry that talked about Dean going into Sammy's crib? Yeah, that melted my heart. The description of them meeting Missouri was so adorable too. And all John's mourning comments for Mary, aw man. There are no words.

Getting to look through the notes and stuff on articles, etc was cool too, and the disciphering (sp?!) of the runes was awesome.

Thank you so so so much, honestly. You rock! XD I think I'll add this to my memories.

hee!! yeah, I couldn't be bothered trying to decode the journal for the longest time, mainly just because of the format it was in! once i got to transcribing though, i couldn't stop. so i'm glad other people are finding it useful too :)

Thanks so much for the site - it's great!!! I'd looked at the journal before but it's great to have it in one place, and easy to read. :) I am convinced if I squint hard enough, though, I can read the letter in #06. ;) So far all I've got, though, is "I have received your letter dated ___ (I think 3 weeks ago) " third paragraph starting with "This morning I have..." GAH. If it would just zoom in just a *little* bit! They're such teases. ;)

Oh and I hate, hate to point out mistakes, but in the timeline it says John met Missouri November 17, but the journal says he met her December 17.

Heyas. Wow, what an astounding amount of work. Kudos and much appreciation. The fact there's a laundry list is some kind of awesome.

Any chance you'll add a section for music? Tracking what's appeared on the show and what references that Dean has dropped/what bands he listens to? Or a list of pop culture references?

Anyways, I noticed a little error when I was surfing the site, so I figured I'd drop a comment so it could be fixed. (Hopefully this doesn't seem uber nitpicky. :3) From the "Cross-media canon" section:

The audio file ‘Andover 3125550143' is morse code for ‘SALVATION'. As far as I recall, ‘Andover, Connecticut' is the town Meg Masters is from. The number is her phone number.

Meg's actually from Andover, Massachusetts. Or at least claimed to be. Or whatnot.

Hi there :)
I was looking at the page about J. Campbell and I thought you may want to add another book as reference - partially derived from Campbell's that's quite known in Hollywood and to storywriters in media.

The book is: "The Writer's Journey: Mythic Structure for Storytellers and Screenwriters " by Christopher Vogler, published by Pan Books (second revised edition, 1999). The book is divided in two main parts, mapping the Archetypal Figures and the Stages of the Journey respectively.

er...love this rescource great job there, but the gothic text on the colt seems to have been transcribed turning what should have been an H into a B - easily done because god know s that gothic script h really looks like a b - but that does not make sense vis-a vis the latin timeo/timeho = fear
