In the Torchwood 3 Kris Kringle, Jack undoubtedly gets given this.

Was listening to the BSG soundtrack last night (as I'm wont to do) and decided that a BSG/Torchwood crossover would be most fabulous! Probably in an oh-no-the-rift-zapped-me-into-this-alternate-universe scenario. At first I was thinking Gaeta/Ianto, but then I thought Gaeta/Toshiko. Y/Y?

Also, Jack/Roslin. Jack would be very rapidly put in his place. And he would like it.

Fewer bookmarks this week as I've been wiki-ing instead of reading and browsing.

ETA: [And this is not meant passive-aggressively, because TBH I really don't mind not getting comments on bookmark posts because it's mainly just an exercise for me to share my delicious messing about, but] it tickles me when there are no comments on my bookmarks post but there are inevitably several people on the flist posting entries about stuff I've linked to shortly afterward :D

Bookmark sharing as indirect conversation: I am fond.

Invertebrate Astronauts Make Space History

Once in orbit, the tardigrade box popped open. Some were exposed to low-level cosmic radiation, and others to both cosmic and unfiltered solar radiation. All were exposed to the frigid vacuum of space... Just how the invertebrate astronauts protected themselves "remains a mystery".

THEY'RE CALLED TARDIGRADES. (They're bigger on the inside.)

I am deliciousing like crazy, so I figured I'd share a bit more on LJ. The bookmarks are all there, of course, but I don't know how much people venture forth from LJ, so.

Here are my bookmarks from the past week, separated into vague dominant categories. The fandom ones can be considered recs!

I am terrible at using the notes function on delicious, by and large I just use the site as a way to keep my bookmarks, so just make sure the links are named intuitively (unless I don't think I'd recognise from the title, I chuck in the occasional note). If you're following links to fic etc then you'll have to check the headers for spoilers, ratings, etc yourself.

You should be able to tell what fandom/medium/type of bookmark it is from the tags listed beneath each link.

Fandom bookmarks - mostly Torchwood, mostly Jack/Ianto )

Shocking Cats

Manbabies.com

MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU

Taylor Mali's live poetry

And I feel compelled to link to these - I could not believe it when I discovered people I consider FRIENDS had NOT SEEN THEM: Dramatic Look, Sneezing Panda, Dramatic Lemur, Star Wars according to a 3 y/o.

Can anyone recommend any cool Etsy stores/sellers they like? for art, jewelry, etc... It's a bit daunting to just dive in, though there is much coolness there is also a whole lot of samesame.

The LJ Advisory board elections are happening right now. I don't know much about it, and tend to think that SUP will just go about ignoring them as per usual, but I still twitch when I think about douches being elected instead of the excellent fandom people running. [livejournal.com profile] bookshop has an excellent run-down of the fannish credentials (or anti-credentials) of candidates here, as well as some more info about voting. If you haven't voted, then please take a look at that post and consider it. (Links to the poll itself from there too.)

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] fandom_votes has lots of excellent information and advice on how to make your fannish vote count. Voting closes: The poll will close: 9:00 p.m. PDT Thursday, May 29, 2008. Don't know if that's happened yet or what.

Secondly, OTW just had its first anniversary! To celebrate, [livejournal.com profile] otw_onlinecon is happening, with nifty fic challenges and chats and panels. So go and have fun with it :D

NY Times has done it again!

Via Slashdot - The Alpha Geeks is an opinion piece that talks about "the rise of geekdom".

David Brooks traces examples of "alpha geeks" through from 1950 to now. Naturally, the only time women are mentioned in the piece is a brief reference to "sorority sisters" persecuting geeks (alongside jocks, preps and frat boys), and a note that Tina Fey "has emerged as a symbol of the geek who grows into a swan" thanks to being on the cover of Geek Monthly (I don't know much about SNL etc, but she's an actress with a geeky aesthetic, right? not an actual geek in practice/profession?). Her name's sandwiched in amongst George Lucas, Elvis Costello, Holden Caulfield, Harry Potter, Lawrence Lessig, Bill Gates, Barack Obama...

Sigh.

A most excellent follow-up to that flow chart, undoubtedly.

hope: Art of a woman writing from tour poster (origins #1 impala)
From Peter Johnson:
As you may know from previous posts, I felt early on that there would be creative and character-driven value to seeing John get the Impala during his journey in the aftermath of Mary's death. It was a decision, and Kripke and I talked about it. However, I'm in violent agreement with many of your comments that the car is the third character in the show, and that it represents a sanctuary for this family following the death of Mary. I like it as the constant that remains after her death - as Mousitsa (Anna) puts it: 'baby' was there to support her three men after the fire.

These comments have made profound impact, and I agree wholeheartedly with the thematics they represent for the SN universe - for both TV and comics. So, despite the fact that #1 and #2 have both been published, I am going to propose making adjustments to revert to John already having the Impala from the get-go when the issues are collected into the trade paperback. I would like to restore this notion to the comics. I believe in my heart and gut that it would be the correct version, not just to match the shot of John and the boys of the hood of the Impala in the pilot teaser, but much more importantly, for what the car represents in the continuity of the family -- before and after Mary's death. I'll be talking to DC about this on Monday.

*fistpump*

You know, I don't just love my fandom. I love the pros who are creating the canon, too.

ETA: further down in that comment thread he also says he'll be advocating to DC a complete removal of references to Jo in #3, which I support WHOLEHEARTEDLY.

I am extremely fond of Jo, but a great deal of that fondness comes from the fact that she is young (younger than Sam), a rookie, a brassy kid fighting with her parent and wanting to dive in and get to it, clunky and amateur in so many aspects of her life. I LOVE it. That just doesn't work for me if she's Dean's age.

DOUBLE HOORAY!
