hope: Art of a woman writing from tour poster (Encyclopedia of Weird - Dean)
I just bought a bunch of stuff at Riverkids; yay for for cheap, handmade stuff that does good!

Also, jumping on the bandwagon:

If you have the urge to send me a christmas card, leave me a greeting here instead *beams* It saves paper and makes me feel less guilty about not sending out my own! Also, if you leave a message, I don't actually get it until Christmas. HOW COOL IS THAT?

Using this icon because it's the closest to "christmassy" that I've got, and also [livejournal.com profile] encycl_of_weird is very awesome.

In other news, I decided to try and properly organise my music for my iPod, so I installed iTunes on my desktop. This involved fighting with an older version of Quicktime that didn't want to uninstall, then going into regedit and deleting quicktime files, then discovering that I've deleted the driver for my soundcard and while the computer still knows it's THERE, it can't actually use it. WOE!

werewolves in progress

hope: Art of a woman writing from tour poster (wolves)
Lo and behold, I've actually started putting words into my 'new' werewolf 'verse story again. By its very nature, it's all over the place, but I'm trying to make myself relax and take advantage of it - allow myself to jump all over the place in the writing stages instead of grinding to a halt as I attempt to push at one particular bit that won't budge.

At any rate, a small handful of people expressed excitement at the prospect of a new story in this 'verse, so I thought I'd do that WIP meme thing again - where I post snippets of in-progress stories. And, well, this is the only one really in progress at the moment. All of the others have not been worked on since forever, or have no more than a line or two, or are no more than twinkles in my eye at this stage.

Anyway. Here's a whole section for ya: Read more... )

I feel a bit weird about this story, now. It's become fanfiction of my fanfiction. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it departs very much from the canon we know and into my own head, which makes me a bit anxious (i.e. why would people want to read that??)

But we'll see how it goes. I've been thinking of these things for a long time, so it will be good to try and express them (ain't art grand?).

And, for your convenience, I've just tagged previous wip meme postings, if you're new and interested in reading snippets of the long-languishing John/Dean bodyswap, or a passage of Sam mauling his professor at Stanford, or selected parts of stories that have long since been posted.

That DVD-Commentary-for-fic meme thing

Will happily attempt to write commentary on my Supernatural fic if anyone wants it. Anyone?

Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

1. Widdershins (Supernatural)
John, Dean and Sam. Gen (pre-series). Rated R for horror themes. 22,000+ words.

2. Stroke of Luck (Firefly)
Jayne/Simon, AU. Rated NC-17 for horror & slash. 20,000+ words.

3. On the banks of the Tiber & Field of Mars (Supernatural)
AUish. Dean, Sam & John. Horror-ish. PG-13. 12,000+ words total.

4. Bower & susurrus (Firefly)
AUish. Jayne, River, Simon & crew. Horror-ish. PG-13. 8,000+ words total.

5. Liminal (Supernatural)
Dean, John, Sam. Gen (pre-series). Hormone soup. Adult. 1,200+ words.
(Didn't even realise how much I liked this one until I got a recording of [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown reading it. Now I listen ALL THE TIME. It's like a precursor, in a way. *pets own brain*)

I hereby tag [livejournal.com profile] _audrey (but for f'art!), [livejournal.com profile] ggreenapple (yes, you. I'm serious. Even if it's flocked.), [livejournal.com profile] nixwilliams, [livejournal.com profile] eloise_bright, [livejournal.com profile] gillianinoz, [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr.

I am using my Grand Narrative icon that pretty much encapsulates all of the above. Wot? At least I'm reliable in SOME things.

In other news, The CW Source linked to my Wonderboy vid. *beams*

I think my favourite thing about this haiku generator is that, a) all my public posts in [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope are fandom-only and b) I tend to post my scribbly crackfic here rather in [livejournal.com profile] hopeful_fiction. Which leads to glorious things like:

haiku S1 meta:

'sammy' in the
benders and finds that sam is
an adult now

haiku sam/dean with possessed!john performing coitus interruptus

as mirrors to see
what the hell are my boys it
takes a step back eyes

a fandom nightmare!

yak was chasing me
around the base of it by
anxiety etc

AHAHAH PORN:

same story there's
a warm solid nudge to the
back of his jeans slouch

(cont)

of sam knees when he
tries to un recede toward
the stables this morning

Awesmoe.

eta: HAH! CARPORN!

scrub dean moaning car
fuck man my car they come
out of the car dean

GODDAMMIT. I can't stop clicking. AHAHAH YAKS )

WIP fic meme, redux

hope: Art of a woman writing from tour poster (i'm still alive)
Need to do this meme again, to rev myself up for actually getting writing again. Though, I shouldn't actually be writing fic at the moment. At least not til the end of October!

Anyway, these are real sloppy and sometimes experimental and stuff. I seem to finally be reaching a point in my writing practice where I'm just typing away experimentally instead of worrying about the finished product and it being all self-contained and perfect.

But, here we go:

Slut!Sam at Stanford. Being co-written with [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown.
excerpt )

John, set between Salvation & Devil's Trap. Those lost hours.
excerpt )

John/Dean bodyswap, still being worked on. Sigh. Eventually porny, probably quite long.

other things I've got stewing that I haven't actually put words on page for )

icons made for fics meme

behind the cut )

I should take the opportunity with this meme to tack on that other icon meme - what is it, again? If you're puzzled by one (or more) of my icons, take this opportunity to ask me about it. ? Or, you know, just ask me what it 'means'/where it's from, etc etc.

Something. Anyway, being half-arsed, I am tired and meandering.

okay, this is possibly not the best time to do this, as most people on the flist are asleep, but... that ‘five things’ fic meme. Hit me, for Supernatural fandom. Can include my fic ‘verses too, if you like.

Because, yeah. Busy for the next four days, but having a break this evening. go!

ETA: one down! randomly rambly and rough and unedited. yep.

for [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown: Five silly things Dean kinda wishes he hadn't done. Even if they were fun.

#2: for [livejournal.com profile] ignipes: Five pieces of girl-related advice that Dean imparted upon Sam during their teenage years.

#3: For [livejournal.com profile] nebulein: five favorite lines from spn fanfics you read )

#4 - For [livejournal.com profile] jam_jar: Five times Sam had to dress up.

Phew, okay. 4,000+ words' worth! Time to sleep. Maybe more tomorrow.

WIP meme

  • Aug. 19th, 2006 at 12:29 PM
hope: Art of a woman writing from tour poster (rearview john)
double-ewe tee eff? Since when did I become a Johnfan?

It's weird, I'm becoming totally obsessive, and yet-- Like. I love Dean and Sam, totally love them and think about them all the time and they give me belly-melting glee and they're hot and make my brain whirr and all that. That beautiful fanlove. Cmon, don't play bashful, you totally know what I'm talking about.

I don't have that love for John, but... he's fascinating. I was inarticulately gesticulating to Mary about all this the other day, and yeah, she hit the nail on the head - he's compelling. I'm drawn to John's character not so much in a way that he makes me make weird little squealing noises, but that I just want to unwind him to find out what makes him tick. And lately, yeah, I've been compelled to do so.

And apparently this translates into a lot of exploratory John fanworks *shrug*

So, okay. That WIP meme. For fics and vids, because why the hell not?

Fic: John/wee!Winchester gen, set in 1984, of epic (for me, anyway) proportions. Currently at about 17,000 words.

excerpt )

Fic: John/Dean bodyswap. Porny. Because, uh, [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown and [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana made me.

excerpt )

And, I usually play the vid bunnies close to the chest, and that's partially because in this fandom it seems as soon as you get an idea, someone else carries it out for you... but hell, with all the podcasting and whatnot, who knows if I'll ever have time to make these anyway? That said, homg, plis don't steal them.

vid WIPs )

Yeah. one day.

Other WIPs? Converting Super-canon to a wiki so I can announce it and get people to contribute already; the goddamn podcast; updating my Super-recs; oh, and right. that academic career thing I'm supposedly working on. Right.

lessee how memes go in this fandom, then. Though like, don't let that stop you... um, feel free to ask about any story i've written, regardless of fandom:

Ask me anything you want about any of my stories: how I thought of the idea, what I did to write it, what I was thinking when I wrote it, what I feel about it now, what I wish I'd done differently, etc. Or ask any of the characters from particular stories something you want to know, and get an answer from them. Or both.

and lets not talk about the fact that my first 'ctrl+v' attempt up there ended up with a url to an article on 'extreme yak sports'.

Does anyone have a link to that lj meme where you type your username in and it comes up with a diagnosis thing, a list of word counts of your most frequently used words?

I have googled, but with no luck. HELP, FLIST.

Also, on The Lawrence Awards stuff - Now that all the noms are up, I see that On the banks of the Tiber was nominated for Best (Slash) AU and Best Horror! Thank you!

Thanks also to whomever nominated my vids, Sweetest Perfection and Maker Makes (the latter which I'm a bit boggled by!) for Best Overall Vid.

I am totally blown away by it all. Thank you :)

field guide to [livejournal.com profile] hopeful_fiction/you know you’re reading story by [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope when...

1. more words are used up by description than actual plot progression.

2. run on sentences are more common than Richard Sharpe’s birthplace.

3. the story starts with someone waking up.

4. lines from canon are randomly dropped into places that twist their original meaning.

5. the dialogue is broken up with description of body language.

...and that’s all i can think of right now. feel free to add to the list!
